Cross trails yard 😍

Fairy circle spotted in the cross trails yard after heavy rains! Mushroom identified as a False Parasol, species of Chlorophyll.

False parasol typically appears in warm, humid conditions, especially during the rainy season. This species looks similar to Agericus campestrus, a commonly eaten mushroom. However it is a very toxic so do not eat!!!

Do not step into the fairy circle, the fairy’s may trap you in a dance until you faint. 🧚

Big news near Harpers Ferry National Historical Park

The National Park Service has been working to improve the Goodloe Byron Memorial Footbridge with a more user-friendly stairwell connecting the Byron Bridge to the towpath at mile 60.6.

Stairway access to the C&O Canal Towpath will close starting July 27 for several weeks (weather dependent) as this project wraps up and the temporary stairs are removed. During that time, a shuttle will run between the C&O Canal and Harpers Ferry NHP.

Byron Bridge is a vital link serving C&O Canal NHP, Harpers Ferry NHP including Maryland Heights, Appalachian National Scenic Trail, and Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail

We had an awesome time this weekend at the Loudon Appalachian Trail Festival a few miles down the trail from us!!! Every year seems to be bigger and better, and this year was no exception. Plenty of food and drinks, raffles and prizes, sunshine and smiles 🌞😃
