About the Owner

Jon graduated from the Recreation Management Department at Appalachian State University. After many travels and adventures, Jon landed at Eagle View Ranch in Wyoming with SOAR. He took on numerous hats and titles for SOAR throughout the years with both the summer camp program, supporting Outdoor Classrooms around the country and supporting Academy at SOAR. Landing for a large port

ion of his career at their North Carolina basecamp, he began raising his two small children in the wonderful wilderness of Western North Carolina. Most recently, his family relocated to East Tennessee and he has been an adventure guide for Blackberry Farms exploring the area while providing intimate personalized wilderness experiences. He is passionate about sharing his knowledge and love of the outdoors with people of all backgrounds and ages. His main love in life other than his children, Jonah and Caroline, is being on the water, in any form that takes. He is grateful for the chance to work with the Knoxville community to get people outdoors and teach skills that will enable them to enjoy the benefits of nature. The Knoxville Adventure Collective is a culmination of 20 years of leading outdoor experiences and Jon is excited to bring his brand of curated trips for all those coming to the downtown area. Jon is a certified Wilderness First Responder with NOLS and ACA Swiftwater Rescue.

Introducing the first edition of our Knoxville Field Guide.

This has been a labor of love—built from a whole lot of belief in this city. We created this guide to showcase what makes Knoxville special: the places, the people, and the energy you feel when you’re here.

This first edition is just the beginning. It’s our attempt to capture the spirit of Knoxville in a way that feels real, local, and worth sharing.

We’re incredibly grateful for all of the partners and contributors who helped bring this to life. And most of all, we appreciate the people who show up every single day and make Knoxville the kind of place others want to be.

Go explore. This city has a lot to offer. We will spread ‘em around town.

We’re fired up to team up with Hardin Valley Event Center to bring you a new highlight of the Knox Water Trail on Beaver Creek 🌿🚣‍♂️

This 3-mile meandering paddle winds through one of the most beautiful stretches of water in Hardin Valley — peaceful, scenic, and perfect for a laid-back adventure.

We’ve got you covered with a secure takeout at Hardin Valley Event Center and a short shuttle to the put-in, making it an easy 1.5–2 hour trip from start to finish.

We kick things off tomorrow, so come paddle with us and then stick around to enjoy the farmer’s market under the pavilion afterwards.

Spots are open — come experience a new side of Knoxville.

Yesterday, Knoxville Adventure Collective took 30 people through the lock at Fort Loudoun Dam for an unforgettable experience on the Tennessee River.

For those who haven’t done it—this isn’t just a paddle. It’s like stepping into a working piece of river history. The lock, built in the early 1940s, lifts and lowers boats nearly 70 feet between Fort Loudoun Lake and Watts Bar. Watching the massive gates close behind you and feeling the water level shift is something you don’t forget.

In about 20–30 minutes, you go from floating high above to dropping down the river—a true “elevator for boats” moment.

Huge thanks to everyone who joined us and trusted the process—it was an awesome group and an even better day on the water.

We’re already looking forward to scheduling more lock-through experiences, along with custom group trips throughout the season.

👉 Stay tuned… more adventure is coming.

After a lot of reflection, I’m excited to share a renewed sense of purpose and energy for Knoxville Adventure Collective.

For 25 years now, I’ve been fortunate to do what I truly love for a living: recreation programming. Creating opportunities for people to get outside, challenge themselves, and make meaningful memories has always been at the core of who I am—and it’s where I’m rededicating my focus.

Right now, we’re working hard behind the scenes to develop new ways to access our programs, refresh and expand our equipment, and elevate the overall experience for everyone who walks through our doors. The goal is simple: make it easier, more fun, and more impactful for people to get outside and connect.

I’m incredibly grateful for the last six years of Knoxville Adventure Collective. It’s been amazing to watch Knoxville continue to embrace thoughtful planning, outdoor recreation, and a true love for this place we call home. I’m proud of what we’ve built together—and even more excited about what’s ahead.

Here’s to the next chapter and to continuing to grow a community rooted in adventure, stewardship, and unforgettable experiences.
