This light colored pike was caught this weekend by two locals. They also caught 8 more pike. The pike are really taking over Wolford reservoir and we need help taking them out. One fisherman said that pike bite best when it is windy. He said that he has only caught pike on windy days. Kokanee fishing has started to pick up again and they have grown! One angler caught a 23 inch Kokanee right off the shore on Tuesday. The weather is warm so the fish are lower in the water at around 25-30 feet. Happy fishing! (by Hannah Zagone)

This fish is a round tail chub. They are native to Colorado and are found in Wolford! Because this fish is native and not stocked, it should never be kept as it is illegal to keep them. This week we've had a lot of people report them and we tell them to put them back if it's not too late. Round tail chubs can be easily identified. They have red fins and large lips. Wolford is the only lake/reservoir in grand county that has a small population of these fish! Happy fishing!

PIKE, PIKE, PIKE!
Last week, Wolford had over 200 Northern Pike reported! Everyone was catching the fish using everything. And that means everything! Power bait, spinners, spoons, rapalas, jerk bait, you name it, they bit it. Most, if not all, of the pike were caught in coves and inlets. Because this number was so high, Wolford, alongside the Colorado River District, has started marking the pike as soon as they are turned in. No other fish were reported this week other than a few trout.
Kokanee fishing is still on the rise and expected to come back as soon as the weather warms up again. The water was 72 degrees and very clear. If you have any questions regarding the fishing conditions, feel free to contact Wolford Campground and Marina! Happy fishing!

This 23.5" brown was caught by Bass Pro and Cabalas sponsored bass fisherman, DJ Williams, near the marina docks on Monday! He and Gene Salberg (also Bass Pro sponsored) used white paddle tails and also caught 10 Northern pike on silver spoons! Kokanee are biting now more than ever. Multiple anglers had reached the 8 Kokanee per person limit within 4 hours. The anglers had all used different lures but every single one of them said they used corn! The popular bate for them are small chartreuse rapala. The Kokanee are still 20-25 feet below and are all around the lake, but mostly near the shore lines. Northern Pike are still biting strong and go after silver and gold 1 inch spoons and any rapala. Pike are mostly found in every inlet that has willows. Trout can also be found all around the lake 10 feet below the surface and by docks and shaded areas. The best times to catch any fish is early in the morning 6:30-8AM and later in the evening around 5-7PM

The surface area is 70 degrees and the lake is exceptionally clear.
