KB and CB are open for business 😎

I need a favor from our social media influencers. I spoke with the Tourism Development Authority this morning asking them for special "We are open" advertising in our in-state markets. They are getting calls and people upstate seem to think we are shut down due to the storm and all the national attention.

We are far from shutdown. The weather forecast is beautiful. The beach is really nice. Fishing is hot.

Most businesses are open.

The next 8 weeks are critical for our many restaurants, hotels, and rental operators.

So here is the ask. You can do more to make that a success than any of the advertising using the power of social media.

Share posts from local businesses, post about the wonderful meal you had, post the fish you caught. Whatever you want to show.

I was eating at Soul Flavor last night and it hit me. If I was a visitor, things seem really normal here.

We may be preoccupied getting our garages dry, and airing out the carpet, but most are ready to receive guests.

We can recover and entertain guests at the same time.

UPDATE: Toured Kure with Mayor Oliver today. They are in great shape given the circumstances. All businesses appear open. Roads are clear.

KURE BEACH HOSTS ISLAND OF LIGHTS NEW YEAR CELEBRATION

The Island of Lights New Year Celebration is always held on New Year's Eve beginning at 9 PM. The location rotates annually between Carolina & Kure Beach, with Kure Beach hosting this year. Don't miss the giant beach ball drop at midnight followed by a spectacular fireworks display.

This free, family-friendly event will feature music by DJ Tommy King. Refreshments will be available for purchase from Michael's Seafood Express and The Donut Hut food trucks, as well as our local downtown businesses. Island of Lights will be selling party favors, in addition to raffle tickets for the Island of Lights official Christmas card and ornament artwork.

This event will bring road, boardwalk, and beach closures to the downtown area throughout the New Year's weekend. Impacted areas include:

—Closure of roadway/parking to vehicle traffic from K Avenue east of Fort Fisher Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue north to L Avenue starting late Saturday, December 30th through early morning Monday, January 1st.

—Closure of beach strand to pedestrian traffic from beach access #120 north to beach access #222 (including closure of beach access #130 and #140) from lunchtime Sunday, December 31st through the completion of the fireworks display at midnight.

—Closure of boardwalk and Atlantic Avenue to pedestrian traffic from beach access #130 to just north of beach access #140 starting around 9 PM on Saturday, December 31st through the completion of the fireworks display at midnight.

A map is included to help illustrate the event layout and resulting closures. Please be mindful of the closures and respect any barricades placed in the downtown area for this event. We wish you all a happy and healthy new year!
