The Spoonbill Room is a Family Favorite! Offering a Queen size bed and a bunk bed set for the kiddos to enjoy!!! This efficiency also offers a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The Spoonbill units are located on the first floor making it easier especially when traveling with the little ones.

He died on December 23, 1914. Today his name is on a town and a pier. Hans Kure, a Danish-born sea captain, did not live to see most of it. 🌊

By the 1880s Kure had settled in Wilmington as a retired sea captain. Around 1900 he bought land at Carolina Beach. About 1913 he bought a much larger stretch of the Cape Fear coast, from Hanby Beach to the gates of Fort Fisher, which was marketed as Fort Fisher Sea Beach and later called Kure's Beach. He died in December 1914. ⚓

His family carried on. A road was built in 1916, the one now called Dow Road. In 1923 his son L.C. Kure built a pier, 711 feet long. The town was incorporated in 1947, and Lawrence Kure became its first mayor. Hurricane Hazel destroyed the pier in 1954. By the early 1930s the company's holdings had been divided among his five children. 🏖️

Family accounts also tell a shipwreck story about how he first came to the coast, but even the Brunswick County Historical Society treats it as debated, so we leave it as legend. When you picture Kure Beach, do you see one man's gamble or a family's long work?

⛸️🎄 Carolina Beach Is Getting a Holiday Ice Rink!

Ice skating at the beach? It’s happening! Carolina Beach Town Council approved $50,000 in seed funding for a temporary outdoor rink this holiday season.

📅 November 27, 2026–January 3, 2027
📍 Boardwalk area near Hurricane Alley’s and Silver Dollar, between Carolina Beach Avenue South and Cape Fear Boulevard.

Planned open-skating hours:
• Wednesday & Thursday: 3–9 PM
• Friday & Saturday: noon–11 PM
• Sunday: 1–9 PM

Mondays and Tuesdays are planned for special programming, including lessons, private parties and possible skating exhibitions. Holiday hours may vary.

Organizers are also exploring Carolina Hurricanes appearances, a replica Stanley Cup photo opportunity and a holiday market. Those extras are still being discussed.

The goal: bring more visitors to Carolina Beach during winter and give local businesses a seasonal boost.
