After 13 years of chaos…we have finally designated one driveway coming in… and one driveway going out! Notice our new big “ENTRANCE” sign out front designating where to ENTER and the “DO NOT ENTER” sign on the other driveway which is the EXIT ONLY! I feel This will eliminate accidents and make traffic run more smoothly so cars are not tempted to squeeze beside each other trying to pass! Thank you for your participation.

We love our squirrel 🐿️ families. They definitely have a lot to say when they are thirsty or hungry 😋

We love our squirrel 🐿️ families. They definitely have a lot to say when they are thirsty or hungry 😋

When you see one little squirrel out in the world, you never really know who is waiting for them at home.

We see them cross a yard, climb a tree, search for food, and disappear into the distance. What we usually do not see is where they return when the day is over.

Maybe there is another little one curled up beside them. Maybe there is a familiar nest, a warm box, or someone they have shared countless nights with.

That is the part I think people forget.

The squirrel you pass for a few seconds may be heading back to a life, a home, and someone who would notice if they never returned.

Every little life has a story we may never get to see.

Tucked in the rolling farmland of Fayette County, the Painted Churches of Schulenburg are one of Texas's most beautiful surprises. ⛪ From the outside they look like simple country chapels, but step inside and the walls and ceilings burst with color.

Czech and German settlers built these churches in the late 1800s, and craftsmen painted marbled columns, star-filled ceilings, and detailed stencil work by hand. 🎨 The sanctuary at High Hill, shown here, is one of the best known of the group.

The churches are a short drive from one another, which makes them an easy half-day loop through quiet back roads and small towns. 🚗 Check visiting hours before you go, since these are still active parish churches, and be respectful when you step inside.

Have you ever found a hidden gem in Texas that completely changed what you thought a small town could hold?

Enjoy a day visiting the Painted Churches in Schulenburg, TX

From the road, it looks like a handsome red brick country church. Step inside, and your camera will not know where to point first. 📸

St. Mary's Catholic Church in High Hill, a tiny community just outside Schulenburg, is often called the Queen of the Painted Churches. Built in the early 1900s by German and Czech settlers, its interior is covered in hand-painted ceilings, faux marble columns, stenciled patterns, and rich stained glass, all glowing in blues, golds, and rose tones. It is one of the most photographed interiors in rural Texas. ⛪

For photographers, a wide lens and a steady hand are your best tools, and soft morning light through the stained glass makes the colors sing. This is an active parish, so visit outside of Mass, keep your voice low, and follow any posted photo rules. The Schulenburg visitor center can point you toward guided tours of the other painted churches nearby for a full day of shooting. 🌄

If you could only photograph one detail inside this church, would it be the painted ceiling, the columns, or the stained glass?
