I’ve been thinking a lot today about power.

Not power over someone else. Not control. I mean the power we have within ourselves—the power to be our authentic selves, to make our own choices, to grow, to heal, to change, and to step fully into our potential.

And I think sometimes we forget just how much power we actually have.

We let other people’s words, opinions, expectations, disappointments, rejection, or treatment of us slowly chip away at it. We start questioning ourselves.

Did I make the right choice?
Am I enough?
Should I have done things differently?
Maybe they’re right.
Maybe I’m the problem.

And before we know it, we’re looking outside of ourselves for permission to trust who we are.

But here’s the thing…

No one can take your power unless you give them access to it.

And I know that can be a hard thing to hear, especially when you’ve been hurt, manipulated, disappointed, or made to feel small. Sometimes you genuinely don’t feel powerful. Sometimes your confidence is gone. Sometimes you’re exhausted from fighting battles you never asked to fight.

But even then, there is still a choice.

Maybe the choice isn’t to suddenly feel strong.

Maybe it’s simply choosing to take one tiny piece of yourself back.

To question what you’re allowing into your life.

To look at who you surround yourself with.

To notice who makes you feel like yourself and who makes you question your worth.

To recognize what drains you and what fills you.

To set a boundary.

To say no.

To say yes.

To walk away.

To stay.

To begin again.

Healing isn’t always about becoming someone new. Sometimes healing is about finding your way back to the person you were before you started believing you had to be someone else.

Your authentic self is still in there.

Your potential is still there.

And your power is still yours.

No one else gets to decide what you do with it.

So if you’ve been feeling like you’ve lost your power lately, maybe don’t ask, “How do I get it back?”

Maybe ask:

“Where did I give it away?”

And then start taking it back. One choice at a time.
