One of the many benefits of a stay at La Veta Pines RV Park is the proximity to many amazing points of interest.

The Great Sand Dunes National Park is just a 66 mile drive west of La Veta. You drive over La Veta Pass and go through historic Fort Garland. The view of Blanco Peak is in sight for many miles. The visitor center is worth stopping in. As with most all National Parks there is a bevy of educational information to be had.

You can find sand boards for the kids to have fun on the dunes at a place called the Oasis on Hwy 150. Of course that means a hike and a climb up the hill first. You can also get a bite to eat or a cold drink there too.

Alamosa isn't far out of the way and the little town of Crestone is not much further as well. Both have points of interest and places to find a bite to eat.

Our camp hosts often go out exploring the area, so feel free to ask them about points of interest or day trips. They are happy to share about their outings and what they've experienced in their own explorations.

Come to La Veta Pines for Memorial Day Weekend. We still have sites available.

There is plenty to keep you busy either enjoying the small town vibe or getting out in nature to see some of this beautiful area.

On Friday, Mountain Merman Brewing Company has Greg & Mike playing music 4-7pm. Admission is free.

On Saturday morning the La Veta Fire Department is hosting a Pancake Breakfast 7:30am - 10am at the fire station located at
100 Birch St. Adults $12, Kids 13 and under $6.

You can also take a drive to Walsenburg on Saturday to enjoy their 4th Annual Porchfest. It's free. A link will be provided in comments.

Monday at 10am is the Cuchara Valley Christian Community Memorial Service at La Veta Cemetary. This is an ecumenical gathering to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. All are welcome.

This time of year the scenic Highway of Legends can lead to short or long hikes, beautiful views and vistas, often a wildlife sighting or two, and many opportunities for places to stop for lunch. Scan the code for the audio tour here in the office.

Come stay with us and we all will have a great weekend.

Well… I guess our theme for this season is “we’re so late with this post”… 😂 We’ve been officially open for a week!! We’ve welcomed our wonderful 2026 park hosts, and hosted some amazing guests, even though it snowed on us twice! But, today it’s sunny and beautiful in La Veta… Get away and come stay with us!

We are so late on this post, but… Last weekend in La Veta was magical!! Our 15 year old son came with us, and experienced our park for the first time. He fell in love with La Veta just like we did. Shelvis and the Roustabouts put on an amazing show, hosted by Emilé and Lannie at La Veta Mercantile. Gub Gub's Pizza and Ice Cream is so good, we had it twice - in Walsenburg, and at Mountain Merman Brewing Company. What an amazing community, we’re so grateful to be part of it!!

Happy “My oven/microwave clock is right again!” Day, to all those who celebrate! (So…Everyone except you Arizonans. Unless you’re Navajo in Arizona. We’ll be celebrating in the traditional way - by being late to church!)

Looking forward to the spring and welcoming guests at La Veta Pines in just a few short months… but in the meantime:

What are your favorite winter activities in and around La Veta? We’ll go first. We loved skiing at https://cucharamountainpark.org on opening weekend in January and can’t wait to go again! How else should we stay active & adventurous or warm & cozy this winter? Please share! :)

Enjoy skiing, hiking, and family fun at Cuchara Mountain Park — a community-based, nonprofit recreation area in Huerfano County, Colorado.
