Our Story
Opened in 1947, Smitholm Cottages is a set of six rustic cottages on Lake Winnipesauke. When the property was purchased in 1947, only cottage 1, the original main house constructed in 1864, and the barn which now is a home and office for the manager of the cottages existed. The Smiths then built the five smaller cottages by hand with the last cottage being finished by the Smith’s son William. Driving up the driveway you’ll notice that the cottages aren’t in numerical order because they were numbered in the order in which they were finished. Each cottage contains two beds and a bath with a full kitchen, living room, and deck to enjoy. Their daughter, Carol, owned and operated the cottages after her parents passing and continued to do so until she passed away at 90 in 2019. The cottages are now operated by Carol’s three children; Caren, Barry, and Sharon. Over the past 72 years Smitholm has hosted generations of families that continue to return summer after summer. The cottages have their own private sandy beach with ping-pong, volleyball, badminton, and more. There is a private 96 foot dock for those who wish to bring their boats as well. Smtholm is located one mile from Weirs Beach, the Weirs Drive-In Theater, the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion, and much more!
