What do you know about taro?

This starchy root vegetable, believed to have been one of the earliest cultivated plants, was brought to Hawaii by Polynesian settlers. Called “kalo” in Hawaiian, taro holds much significance in local culture: It’s considered sacred and is believed to be a common ancestor to all Native Hawaiians. A staple in the Hawaiian diet, every part of the taro plant can be edible, including the roots, which are cooked and pounded into a purple paste called poi.

You’ll find our taro patch across from the Aloha barbecue sitting area. Next time you’re at Napili Kai, be sure to stop and take a look at this patch of Hawaiian history. ☀️🌱❤️

Since joining the Napili Kai ʻohana in 2016, Jeffrelyn has become a favorite of guests and staff alike. Her friendly, helpful nature has helped her flourish in her roles at Napili Kai, first at our Makai Hale snack bar, and now as one of our reservations agents.

Jeffrelyn brings warmth and aloha to every guest interaction. She's always ready with the information guests need to book their stay, and she handles questions and requests with patience and care. We continually hear from our guests how much they value her assistance and love her cheerful personality.

And it’s not just our guests who appreciate Jeffrelyn. Her co-workers and managers count on her conscientious, detail-oriented approach, and they are especially grateful for her willingness to lend a hand.
