Look who stopped by for a visit!
The Fort Randall Project had some special visitors today at the Randall Creek Boat Basin, three Trumpeter Swans, two adults and one juvenile, making their way north.
Trumpeter Swans are impressive birds, weighing over 25 pounds, and are known for spending winters in the southern U.S. before returning to nest in the remote wetlands of Alaska, Canada, and the northwestern U.S.
The yellow tint on the two adults is likely from feeding in an iron-rich wetland, which gives their plumage that unique coloring.
What a beautiful reminder of spring migration here in our area. 🦢
