At the Opening Ceremony of the 2026 Elks National Convention, Elijah Borjon, a 2026 Top 20 Most Valuable Student scholar sponsored by Petaluma, Calif., Lodge No. 901, gave a moving speech that detailed how his $30,000 scholarship has changed his life.

“So when I say I am grateful for this scholarship, I mean something much deeper than ‘college is expensive,’ although it absolutely is,” said Elijah. “I mean that the Elks have given me the freedom to choose. To study. To think. To explore. To become. To say yes to opportunities without every decision being dictated by fear or money or survival.”
