This is the week the whole Upper Peninsula turns to gold. 🍁
Right about now the maples go red and orange, the birches and aspens go yellow, and the tamaracks will follow in a few weeks with that soft rusty glow down in the swamps. It is peak color up here, and for generations the thing to do is simple: get in the car, pick a back road you half remember, and just drive.
No schedule, no destination, maybe a thermos of coffee and a bag of something from the bakery. You crest a hill and the whole valley is lit up with color and somebody in the back seat says pull over, so you do. Folks come from all over to see this, but up here you only have to open the front door. 🧡
