Northern Lights as seen from the shore of Rock Lake at Woodland Beach at about 8:15pm tonight. The green color was slightly visible with the naked eye.

Wisconsin is home to 11 types of turtles and today at Woodland Beach many saw a Spiny Softshelled turtle laying eggs!

These turtles are incredibly fast both on land and in the water. The females can get quite large up to 18 inches and they can live up to 50 years in the wild.

It is aways amazing to see many of the different types of turtles in Rock Lake. It is an indicator that our lake is healthy and has a good ecosystem.

Please remember to give turtles their space.

It's a Magical time in Lake Mills! The lake is starting to freeze, the sunsets are beautiful and Santa was downtown tonight and the downtown square is decked out in the holiday season!

The ice is off the lake!

It's official! Rock Lake is ice-free today, 2/28/2024. The City will now manage water levels to maximum spring levels (827.63) which is 1.56 inches higher than maximum winter levels. According to the City, today's Rock Lake water level was 827.68. That is about .6 inches higher than what is allowed, so water is being released from the dam in addition to the required minimum flow.

This time last year, Rock Lake's water level was 827.55. In 2022, it was 827.24 and in 2021, it was 827.37. Of course, for all of those years we were still under ice.

I took my dog for a walk out to the trestle to see the improvements that were made. It looks the same from the top and still has the wobbly railing but the bottom got new supports.
