Steam Donkey on a Raft, Huntington Lake, California. Image taken June 17, 1913. Between 1912 and 1913, three dams were built to create the lake basin known as Huntington Lake. When the waters began to rise, there was a concerted effort to clear the lake bottom of all the trees that were going to be drowned. This image shows the efforts taken to accomplish that task.

Next Saturday I will be speaking at the Museum of the Sierra located just outside the community of Shaver Lake. The topic of my presentation will be the San Joaquin & Eastern Railroad, which operated between Del Prado and Cascada between 1912 and 1933, along with the initial construction of Powerhouse #1 now located at Big Creek. Many of the images are from collections held by the Fresno County Library and the Museum of the Sierra, and most have never been shown in a public setting. The presentation begins at 1pm and admission will be five dollars. I hope to see you there!

Cabin A has always had a twin bed in the living area, which most guests seem to use as a couch. Now it has a couch that can become a queen sized bed. The one in the photo is in the owners' cabin.

What a difference a day makes! E and F got this treatment this week. Thanks to the weather D and G have to wait for fall. Our first 2026 guest has arrived and gone fishing until check-in time at 3:00. The waterfront is currently blocked by the dock, waiting for the water to rise so it floats. Repairs to Dam 1 have made the water level unreliable for us so far.
