On Native American Day, it feels especially meaningful to be surrounded by a landscape with a story stretching back thousands of years.

Archaeological discoveries along the Econfina have revealed stone tools, arrow heads, and other evidence of Native people living, traveling and gathering resources along these waters thousands of years ago — including at an ancient coastal site now submerged offshore.

Today, we’re simply fortunate to experience the same wild waters, marshes and Gulf coast that have drawn people here for generations.
