FINAL CALL SNOWFALL FORECAST: A winter storm will bring areas of heavy snow to Wisconsin later today into Monday morning. Any rain occurring today will transition to snow from west to east across the state, beginning by early afternoon west of Eau Claire, reaching central Wisconsin between 3-6pm, and reaching eastern Wisconsin between 6pm-12am. Heavy snowfall rates exceeding 1 inch per hour will be possible this evening and overnight. Wind gusts of 30-45 mph will become possible tonight into the day Monday, leading to blowing and drifting of the snow. Additionally, a flash freeze will lead to a thin layer of ice underneath the snow as temperatures fall rapidly this evening.
⚠️Travel will become dangerous this evening and tonight due to the combination of heavy falling snow, breezy winds, and frigid temperatures. ⚠️
Snow exits Wisconsin from west to east Monday morning, with snow ending for all by 12pm (with the exception of far northern Wisconsin where some lake effect may linger). Winds will remain gusty into the day on Monday, which may make cleanup somewhat difficult due to additional blowing and drifting. High temperatures Monday afternoon will likely be in the teens.
INFORMAL FORECAST DISCUSSION: Main change to the snowfall forecast was to slightly increase amounts for almost everyone across central and northern Wisconsin. Forecast modeling remains consistent regarding the track and timing of this system, with only minor differences in intensity. Main reason to increase amounts was higher confidence in the new low ends being achieved (ie: 90% chance of 4” in Wausau). Not going to go into depth this morning in an effort to get this posted ASAP, but the bottom line is heavy snow will occur later today and tonight bringing dangerous travel conditions to much of the state.
