Yesterday while car shopping in Sarasota on S. Tamiami Trail. Unhappy with how the car buying day went and hungry. We asked the salesman where we could grab a quick bite to eat. He suggested that although he's never eaten there, an Italian he said has been at the same location for 25 years.

We headed that way and spotted "The Italian Grill" restaurant. It had easy access and ample parking, which for me is a big plus. So, we pulled in.

Upon entering "The Italian Grill," a pleasant staff member instantly acknowledged us. Asked about our seating preference. Choices being booths, casual tables/chairs, seating at their well-stocked and spotless bar. Or high tops in the bar area. Where we sat, we ordered a well-poured adult beverage. I didn't ask, but I presume they have a cocktail menu.

I immediately noticed the restaurant's fresh and squeaky-clean appearance. I felt pride in ownership and a love for what they do. So, after an unsuccessful day. Car shopping. It appears choosing The Italian Grill Italian for a cocktail may have been the play of the day!

The menu was easy to read and manageable in size. With all the standard Italian dishes. From a nice selection of appetizers, pasta, soups, seafood, house specialties, desserts, and a young foodie menu. They also have a wood-fired pizza oven and Stromboli & Calzone.

I saw they have takeout dishes, and the to-go packaging would travel well.
My wife had a cold crispy Insalata di Casa salad and clean Mussels in a sauce. I ordered a wood-fired pizza. The wife enjoyed her salad and really loved the Mussels. We live in Belleair Fl and getting my type of pie is hit and miss. Their Suprema pizza. With Sausage, Mushrooms Pepperoni, Green Peppers. Was one of the best I’ve eaten in Florida!

While stuffing my face. I noticed a gentleman going table to table. I presumed he was the manager. Making sure everyone’s content.

He stopped by our table. Introduced himself as Rob. One of the owners. It turned out after 23 years being managed and overseen by the same family. Rob and Doc. Two enthusiastic and capable middle-aged gentlemen. Recently purchased, renovated, and transformed a very dark 1990’s restaurant. Taking the time to share before and after photos and giving me a tour of their spick-and-span kitchen.

I was impressed in a few months. They created a contemporary style trattoria bistro.

With more positive changes taking place. After 20 plus years “The Italian Grill” will be open for lunch. Plans for outside dining. New bathrooms. Their own delivery service. Developing their private party and events division.

Something I found very cool was their unassuming isolated space. For people who like sports and prefer when dining out to have a TV (not a sports bar) to catch a score. I didn’t even notice till leaving. A small-scale discrete area with seating and 2 nice TV’s Never interfering with your dining experiences.

“The Italian Grill” New hours a11 AM - 9 PM Monday through Friday and from 4 PM - 9 PM on Saturday and Sunday - Dine-in & Carry Out!

Fishermans Wharf owned and operated by Dalip Tzekases and the Tzekases family. For 27 years closed in 1990. And was leased to Leverock‘s seafood. Level rats out of the lighthouse on the roof for tiki bar by the edge of the water. In 2003 level rise close that location. In 2004 shells seafood move to the location. Before going bankrupt in 2008. The last restaurant to occupy the space for simply called 551 after you address the property. Popular in 2011 and close the same year. The tack his family still owns a 3.2 acres the waterfront property. The property is currently for sale for $27 million. It will most likely be used for a future condo or a hotel. It’s been approved for 120 condos or 150 condo hotel units as well as mixed use development with retail on the ground level!
