Lovingly restored a century later and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Plaza Hotel is the premier place to stay in Las Vegas f

On November 3, 1889, 63 masked riders swept through the streets of Las Vegas, New Mexico.

They were Las Gorras Blancas, the White Caps. That night, they cut down fences erected by speculators across the half-million-acre Las Vegas Land Grant, land local families had depended on for generations.

Their message was simple: with barbed wire came hunger.

They rode through this very plaza. More than a century later, their story still lives here.

Historic Hotel. Las Vegas, New Mexico. Not that Vegas.

From a town well to a dark piece of Wild West history, the story of the Hanging Windmill is oneof the Plaza’s wilder tales. Today, a peaceful gazebo sits in its place right across from the historic Plaza Hotel.

Some towns play volleyball on a court. Around here, we add water, wait for mud—and take it very seriously.

Real teams. Real refs. Real bracket. Real trophy. Just one of those county fair traditions that makes perfect sense in Las Vegas, New Mexico—five minutes from The Plaza Hotel.

Mud, dust, fast horses, and live music, the San Miguel County Fair truly brought
the energy this year! From non-stop action on the rodeo dirt and intense mud
volleyball matches to supporting our local youth at the junior livestock sale and
wrapping it up under the stage lights, it was an unforgettable weekend.

A weekend that felt like a throwback to what matters most: kids working hard, families showing up and a community supporting its own.

The Junior Livestock Sale closed out the San Miguel/Mora County Fair on Saturday evening. Every animal in the ring had been raised since spring by a local kid in 4-H or FFA—and local businesses came ready to invest in all that hard work.

We loved being just five minutes from this wonderful tradition and seeing the whole community come together.

Small-town New Mexico at its very best.

What will you spot at the Historic Plaza Hotel?!

Did you know that Las Vegas, New Mexico is one of Hollywood’s favorite hidden
backlots? With its perfectly preserved historic architecture, our town has served as the
backdrop for countless iconic films and television shows. One of our absolute favorite
claims to fame happened right here inside the walls of the Plaza Hotel. In the 2007
modern classic No Country for Old Men, our staircase became the stage for one of the
film's most intense scenes. If you look closely at the movie, this is the exact spot where
Javier Bardem’s chilling character, Anton Chigurh, corners Carson Wells (played by
Woody Harrelson). Swipe to see the staircase today, alongside the special
commemorative frame we have hanging right next to it. Next time you visit us, make sure
to take a walk up these famous steps. Have you spotted the Plaza Hotel in any of your
favorite movies? Let us know in the comments!
