A very rare photo of the Landmark under construction in 1963 in color at dusk. It was taken by Bernard Gotfryd and found its way to the Library of Congress where it was mislabeled and only just recently identified.

When the Landmark was originally built, the 29th floor contained a casino, the Mandarin Room restaurant, Sky Bar lounge, and a showroom (which was quickly repurposed as a movie theater). A spiral staircase led from the 27th floor to the 29th (there was no 30th) so guests could quickly access the casino or lounge. When the 29th floor was gutted in 1971 and converted into suites, the staircase remained. During the 1984 remodel, the staircase was removed and a chandelier from the former Prime Rib Room was placed there instead.

The Landmark sat dark for 5 years after her closure in August 1990. Only radio station KLAV continued to operate in the tower until they could relocate to a new facility.

On this day in Las Vegas' lost history, November 7, 1995 we lost the Landmark Hotel & Casino. Construction of the Landmark Hotel & Casino began in 1961 yet it would be another eight years before it finally opened on July 1, 1969.
The property struggled to stay open for the next twenty years eventually closing August 8, 1990.
After sitting vacant for the next five years, it was bought by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority in September of 1993 and eventually brought down by controlled demolition at 5:37 a.m. Tuesday, November 7, 1995 in less than seventeen seconds.
This set of photos were taken by my bar back at the Aladdin and given to me since I had to work that night / morning. Still trying to research his full name for credit.
