The Castaneda is an historic Fred Harvey Hotel located in beautiful Las Vegas, New Mexico, along Amtrak's Southwest Chief line. The hotel opened in 1898 - the first Harvey Hotel in the Southwest. Teddy Roosevelt came with the first Rough Riders reunion in 1899, and the Castaneda became famous for New Mexico hospitality. It closed in 1948 and was derelict for more than fifty years until purchased b

y Allan Affeldt of La Posada Hotel in 2014 for a multi-year, multi$ million restoration. Now the Castaneda has been completely restored, with a fabulous restaurant and full of beautiful antiques. The project has received national awards and recognitions, from CBS Sunday Morning to the state historic preservation office.
