We got a message from a returning guest today that made us smile.

He’s moving his upcoming stay from Airbnb to a direct booking and said he was happy to do it so we could save the fees.

And yes—we do. But so does he.

There’s a lot of confusion about what actually happens to the price of a vacation rental when you book through Airbnb or Vrbo versus directly with the owner. And with Vrbo changing its fee structure next month, we thought it was a good time to explain it.

No “always book direct” lecture. No pretending one option is right for everyone. Just what those different prices actually mean.
