Reposting from 2021. It was certainly a surprise to open the Missouri Conservationist in 1984 to find this overhead photo of the cabin. The more things change, the more they look the same.
Overhead view of the log cabin from a 1984 Missouri Conservationist. The article was a summary of the events that ended the Corps of Engineers' project to dam the Meramec River. Generations of my family will be grateful to H.D. Patten, who joined others in a lawsuit against the Corps....which delayed the project long enough for the citizens of Missouri to vote on whether the dam should move forward, or that the rivers should continue to run free. In 1978, the dam was stopped and the Meramec and its tributaries continue to offer relaxing float trips to all who visit the area.
