Last night, sun pierced through the canyon and spotlight the tops of the golden leafed aspens along the lakeshore, almost like a goodbye kiss to the 2026 season. Perfect timing… this is our last weekend of the year. It’s been a wonderful 2026, thank you to all of our longtimers, visitors, community, and supporters that keep Lundy being “Lundy”.

We’ll be open a couple more days, closing this Thursday October 15. Then, it’s time to look forward to 2027. Reservations for the 2027 season will open up online January 1 at lundylakeresort.com. If you’re sad about season close, it’s the perfect opportunity to plan next year and have a trip to look forward to- the mountains, lake, and waterfalls, beavers, birds, fish and friends will all be waiting for you ❤️

Fall scene of the day: gorgeous clear morning at one of our Lundy Beaver Ponds 🩵 🦫 💛 🪾

We went out this morning to catch the view before wind and weather blow in, and were, as always, wow’ed by the magic Beavers create here in Lundy.

Some Mountain Manners Reminders:

🗺️ After traveling the paved road to Lundy Lake Resort store, continue *SLOWLY* 1.5mile up the dirt road for iconic beaver pond views and the trailhead.

🚙 Trailhead parking is limited. Arrive early and/or plan on parking and walking gorgeous Lundy Lake Road (1.5mi). Park at the boat launch at west end near the shore. (note: pull offs on Lundy Lake Rd near the ponds are to allow two-way traffic to pass safely, not long-term parking). If driving, drive SLOW 10mph for hikers, dogs, and wildlife.

🚽 Public porta potties are available in 3 sites: the trailhead, lake boat launch, and lake dam. Do not leave dog p**p bags at the Porta potties, there is no p**p bag fairy coming for them. If you “gotta go” on the trail, follow rules including getting off trail away from water and carrying out (not burying, not rock-piling) your toilet paper.

🗑️ Pack out your trash. There is no trash service at the trailhead, so have a plan in place to take your trash (including dog p**p!)

🐻 🌳 🦌 Respect the locals! Our beaver ponds are active with busy families that call them home. Drive very slow and keep your distance to safely admire wildlife from afar. Do not disturb dams or huts. Please do not carve or gouge the beautiful aspen trees, which leads to infection for them.

🏕️ Camping is available at Lundy Lake Resort on west side of lake and the county Lundy Canyon Campground below east side of lake. No overnight/dispersed camping outside of the 2 campgrounds’ established paid sites. You can, with a permit, backpack the canyon for overnight use (but no camping at the trailhead/along the road).

Lundy Canyon went from a place to watch last week to full peak this week and the photos are stunning.

The big grove of aspens about 2 miles into the Lundy Canyon Trail were at peak on Oct. 5. With some stormy weather expected in the Eastern Sierra this weekend, this is definitely your last chance to catch this spot.

The Lundy Lake Resort and Store is open until Oct. 15, 2026. Stop in with any questions, come camp with us before close, or just to say hi.

It’s official, Lundy Beaver Ponds, Lakes Canyon trail, and Lundy Canyon trail are at peak. It’s go-now time, so don’t miss out on the colors this weekend. Please read all tips below when planning your visit.

Lundy’s precious and sensitive beaver pond habitats are found along the 1.5mile dirt portion of Lundy Lake Road just past the Lundy Lake Resort (LLR) | Camping, RV Sites, Cabins + more store on the way to trailhead. Stop by the store before your walk for local tips, beaver facts, coffee, souvenirs and treats!
