SLR IS REOPENING TOMORROW 7.27!

07/18/2023

I wrote a whole post and honestly can't even bear to share it. It just sounds like a broken record at this point. Bottom line:

No, TPR will not be open this year. Nor will SLR.

Yes, significant flooding and further structural damage has again occurred.

Yes, we're as frustrated as you are...except more.

The saga continues...

Hi everyone. My default inclination is to inform completely, which would require a rather lengthy writing to cover all we've been through since the initial damage incident in 2017. Instead, I'm going to resist that impulse and simply state that there have been myriad challenges, including a significant flooding incident in May of 2019, that have rendered our repair & renovation project a rather epic uphill battle. Bluntly, it's been quite a slog.

Much has been accomplished...at great cost. From a restoration and structural/infrastructural improvement perspective, it does feel pretty satisfying. But I must confess that any notion of a Disneyland perfect grand-reopening is and was always unrealistic...and from that perspective it tends to feel somewhat disappointing much of the time. Many improvements will be quite obvious, but we'll also be somewhat rough around the edges for some time to come.

We are in the late stages of finishing-out the cabins. We HOPE to potentially offer some lodging (only) later this season. Food & Beverage will come after that...and you can expect it to start out pretty basic.

Re-staffing represents a big challenge. As is widely-publicized, good help is harder than ever to find these days. TPR is clearly an incredible place to work & live...but it requires a certain type to thrive in the immersive high-altitude environment. You've really got to be "all-in." We will be seeking everything from a new manager(s) to housekeepers to (eventually) cooks. Versatility and flexibility is what we'll really need most.

Persons interested in potential future employment should inquire at [email protected] with "Employment Inquiry" in the subject line.

Perpetual apologies to any and all who have submitted various (non-employment) inquiries via email/direct message. I/we are simply unable to respond to such inquiries on an individual basis. If you have submitted and employment inquiry previously, please resubmit if still interested.

See the Saddlebag Lake Resort FB page for a seperate update shortly. Thanks to all for your interest in TPR and the incomparable Yosemite High-country and for your continued support.

TPR live shot from Cabin 9. Detailed update coming soon.

Hi Everyone,

Briefly, we HOPE to offer some lodging at some point this season...perhaps by mid-July. In order for this to happen, various issues and obstacles must be overcome. We will not be taking any reservations until we are more or less absolutely sure a given cabin/room can be offered.

Food & Beverage service is unlikely to be offered this season. Our old F & B paradigm is simply no longer economically nor logistically viable and so must be modernized and adapted to current realities. That said, in time we'll do our best to restore some of the classic components.

This has been a long, difficult, extremely costly process. Though we wish it were different, the fact is that a "grand reopening" is simply not in the cards. Instead, we plan to start with lodging and move into basic/revised F & B as we are able. There is still much to rebuild at both the physical and staffing levels.

There's no way around the fact that TPR will be different than it was in some respects. It will also be better. You can expect it to restart humbly and then continue to evolve over the coming seasons.

Continued thanks to all for your interest and support.
