If you’re spending a few days with us, we’ll be happy to point you toward some of the many fascinating historic and cultural towns in the area. While Jim Thorpe is the closest and certainly worth a visit, it’s far from the only place where you can enjoy an afternoon or evening exploring unique shops, historic sites, restaurants, and local culture.
We’re especially happy to see our hometown of Bethlehem receiving the recognition it deserves. Just about a 45-minute country drive from here, Bethlehem is rich in history, art, shopping, wonderful restaurants, and festivals throughout the year.
We’re also thrilled that Historic Moravian Bethlehem has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Some of the Moravians’ early homes and houses of worship remain, along with a colonial industrial quarter that includes a mill, tannery, and blacksmith shop. UNESCO describes these beautifully preserved stone buildings as “the first permanent, best-preserved, and most important Moravian Church settlement in North America.”
Bethlehem is a very special place to us. We grew up in this small town, known as The Christmas City, and our father worked as a welder in the blast furnaces of Bethlehem Steel. His hard work helped provide the wonderful life we enjoyed as children, and the history and character of Bethlehem remain a meaningful part of who we are today.
We have such fond memories of visiting historic Bethlehem as schoolchildren, especially the magical candlelit tours, where we carried beeswax candles through the historic streets. Even today, the wonderful scent of beeswax instantly takes us back to our childhood. It’s a smell we absolutely love—and one that holds a special place in our hearts.
So, on your next stay, plan to explore the region and make a few days of it! There’s so much history, character, and beauty to discover, and we’d love for you to experience some of the places that mean so much to us.

Bethlehem showcases its industrial heritage and picturesque Main Street. It’s a twinkly Christmastime destination and home to one of the newest UNESCO sites in the US.
