Weddings got smaller and this house got more useful. Forty-four percent of American couples are now hosting under fifty guests, and micro weddings grew twenty-three percent year over year heading into 2026. A ballroom cannot do fifty people without feeling empty. A first floor built in 1909 can.

This one came in last month and we have read it about forty times. What guests keep telling us is some version of the same thing, which is that they expected a nice old house and got somewhere they did not want to leave.

A whole day in Lincoln without getting in your car twice.

Start at the Haymarket for coffee and the Saturday market while it is still running this month. Walk over to the Capitol, which is free, open to the public, and genuinely one of the strangest and best buildings in America. Spend the afternoon in the Sunken Gardens. Then come back, sit on the porch, and do nothing.

The Martha Suite is the room people book when two couples travel together or when a family needs space without being in separate buildings.

A king bedroom, a second room with a queen, and a Jack and Jill bathroom between them, so you share the house but not the walls.

Six rooms, two completely different worlds, and most guests have a strong opinion within about thirty seconds. Marilyn, Norma and Dorothy are our Art Deco rooms, which means clean lines, geometry, and a bit of 1920s confidence.

Alma, Alvera and Elizabeth are Louis XVI, which means curves, softness, and a lot more intricacy. Neither one is the upgrade. They are just different moods. Swipe through and tell us in the comments which room is yours.

Somebody chose this in 1909 and it is still here. That is the part of an old house that gets you. Every door handle, every bit of glass, every square of tile was picked by a person who never imagined a stranger would be photographing it a hundred and seventeen years later. We keep as much of it as we can. Send this to whoever you would walk through an old house with.

Game day in Lincoln and the whole town turns out. If you are driving in for a Saturday this season, here is the thing most visitors learn too late.

October in a 1909 house in Lincoln looks like this. The light comes in low through the front windows from about four in the afternoon, and the whole first floor goes gold for an hour.

Nebraska is 2 and 0 at home, and tonight the Huskers go for three when North Dakota comes to Memorial Stadium at 6:15.

A 6:15 kickoff gives you the entire day, which is honestly our favorite kind of game day. Our guests came down to continental breakfast this morning with nowhere to rush off to, and now they have hours to wander the neighborhood, grab lunch downtown, and still get to the stadium early.

This is the third weekend in a row that Martha's has been full of Husker fans, and we are not tired of it yet. The porch stays busy all morning, the coffee goes fast, and everybody walks out the front door in red.

To everyone staying with us tonight, have a great one out there, and breakfast will be ready when you wake up tomorrow.
