Damn. Just ... damn.
If you knew Doug Kondziolka as "Miguel," you knew about his talent. He was a bundle of kinetic energy even when standing still, with that energy frequently bursting forth with hilarious effect. He was friendly and welcoming to patrons, never negative or condescending in any way, treating everyone he encountered as old friends (some of whom he'd only just met). Above all, he was an absolutely sparkling wit, one of the funniest men I've ever known. I could just stand and watch the man work a crowd for hours. A delightful and consummate performer, that was Miguel.
If you saw Doug's backstage side, however, you knew the *real* man. You saw him ... and you loved him. The humor was still there, of course, but there was so much more. Doug was a gentle, caring man, and a dedicated and loyal friend. In addition, he was one of the most spiritually-gifted, meditative souls I have ever encountered. He had immense love and respect for the natural world and it's beauty, and just as much love and respect for his fellow man, and he brought a unique and wonderful light into the lives of everyone he knew.
Doug passed away today. A light went out in our hearts, and we all know that the Renaissance Faire world will never bright as it was when he was in it.
He may have left us today, but we will carry him with us forever. Goodbye, friend. We will miss your light, your voice, and your presence; and we will never forget you. Rest Well, Rest in Peace, Rest in Honor, and most of all, Rest in Love.
Merry Meet and Merry Part.
