After 28 years and 7 days it’s time to close this chapter. I’ve been looking forward to retirement for a few years now.

THANK YOU to all the amazing people who have stayed at Rustic Log Cabins, the friends we have made, Rob and the staff, Kim, Tanya, and Corey who gave it their all and stood by me. You have made it such a success story, one that I could not have imagined even a few short years ago.

It is said that when you feel you have reached the peak of success, then it’s time to begin another endeavor. And now is that time.

Now it’s time to turn over the reigns to the new owners, Erik and Jen. We wish them success!

Thank you all! You have certainly made a difference.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU ALL AND HELLLLLLOOOOO TO THE FIRST SNOW OF THE SEASON! We’ve got the cabins all set for winter and we suspect there might be a snowman (or woman) coming to life.

The three closest major ski areas - Cannon, Loon, Bretton Woods - will all be open by December 3rd (Cannon and Loon are open now). The snowmobile trails will open on December 15th, and Rustic private hiking trail connects to them.

Through it all, the Salmon Hole Brook will be flowing nicely past each cabin. It typically runs all winter!

We’ve spent spring, summer, and fall creating a new mini-forest area by our Rustic Log Cabins sign, planting over 30 evergreens there and around the cabins.

The wood burning fireplaces continue to add warmth and ambiance for our guests and the new bridge over the brook provides a soft glow at night.

We are looking forward to the arrival of our guests. Whether you’re a first-timer or some of the hundreds of returning guests, your cabin will be waiting.

IT’S BEEN NEARLY 60 YEARS SINCE THE FIRST HAND HEWN CABIN OF THE RUSTIC LOG CABIN COLLECTION WAS BUILT BY REAL GOULET AND HIS FAMILY. After completing the first cabin, another was built and interest began to spark as folks inquired about renting them. The Goulets built 2 more plus the main residence cabin on the 16 acre site; all of them sit alongside the Salmon Hole Brook. They also built 3 more cabins off site; one of them is just about a mile away on Sugar Hill Rd. and the other two just 1/4 mile away on Gilman Hill Rd.

The Goulets eventually sold the property and another family renovated a shed into the original Cabin 6 and also built Cabin 7. The Lessard family purchased Rustic Log Cabins in May of 1994 after the cabins have been dormant for a couple of years. They worked to get the cabins and the whole property in order so they could reopen for guests. Over the years, they raised two children and kept the business going.

Alana recently took sole ownership of Rustic and began all levels of repairs and renovations. Over the past 5 years, every aspect of the property was being modified to create a new, fresh vision. Improvements of carpentry, electrical, structural, plumbing, the artesian well, landscaping and more were implemented and improvements continue to this day. New wireless Wi-Fi internet was installed for our guests and broader advertising and online reservation options were created to help grow the business.

All of this has led to a very much improved - but still very rustic - Rustic Log Cabins.

Recently there’s been talk about maybe - maybe - building more cabins. The need is certainly well established as folks are now booking more and more, sometimes up to a year in advance. The goal was that (if other cabins are to be erected) they have to have the same rustic look and craftsmanship that the Goulet family created. But they had moved away many years ago and were no longer in the area. In fact, no one knew where they had gone.

Then something happened. It’s one of those things that gives you chills, albeit good ones.

This past June, Alana received a call from one of the Goulets. They did not know each other at the time. It was a random call to Rustic. A family member had passed away and there was a painting that she felt belonged at Rustic. It was painted by a guest back in the 70s and depicts a much younger Rustic Log Cabins.

They say things happen for a reason. This is certainly one of those things.

Enjoy the painting and come visit Rustic soon.

MAY THE 4TH ISN’T JUST FOR STAR WARS FANS. It’s also the 27TH ANNIVERSARY of the purchase of Rustic Log Cabins!

It’s been such a ride. Normally private lodging places change hands or close on an average of about 7 years. It’s not always been easy (for quite some time, it was actually very very hard) but now I have a great staff and have hosted so many new guests.

2020, as unusual as it was, gave me a chance to assess Rustic and continue repairs and improvements. We now have Jacuzzis in 4 of the 6 cabins, renovated floors, bathrooms and cabinets, replaced water heaters and other items. Our bridge over the Salmon Hole Brook is being rebuilt and we are adding yard games.

We added sleeper sofas to both Cabin 5 and Cabin 2, increasing the capacity. And we’ll be getting new mattresses too!

And ... Rustic also went pet friendly!

Oh, we’ve got another project or two in the works but that’s our little secret, for now ;) ;)

As you can see, we’ve been busy little bees during the past 12 months; all in anticipation of getting back to normal.

The wood burning fireplaces, private outdoor fire pits and the Salmon Hole Brook await you. Spring has sprung so the blooms and woodlands creatures await you as well.

Book now. There are only a few weekends left for the summer.

Welcome or Welcome Back!

Alana

HAPPY(er) NEW YEAR FROM RUSTIC LOG CABINS - THE YEAR THAT WAS AND ONTO THE YEAR THAT WILL BE

ITS EASY AND CUSTOMARY TO SAY “HAPPY NEW YEAR” as each December comes to a close. Even in 2020, many folks are keeping the spirit. The truth is, underneath it all, it is harder for many and those folks often do not let on as to the hardships they are enduring.

We here at Rustic have been managing as best we can to surf the waves this pandemic has conjured up. Many businesses have either experienced reduced traffic, reduced hours or closed. Through it all, we have met many folks who have managed to navigate the restrictive atmosphere that we have all been living under. A combination of sacrifice and even some luck (mainly where you live) have enabled them to escape, albeit for a little while.

Depending on what you chose as comparisons, New Hampshire has been relatively safer than the more populated areas of the country. However, those affected have been a high number for such a sparsely populated state.

RUSTIC AND ALL LODGING IN NH WAS CLOSED BY ORDER OF THE GOVERNOR in early April. During the closure, we made some renovations and focused on providing an even better experience for our guests once the closure was lifted. We reopened in mid-June and never looked back. We’ve met a lot of new guests and hosted many return ones. One common thought that has prevailed with our guests this year has been that of being in a unique and safe environment.

Rustic has only 6 cabins that rest on 16 acres. Our own private hiking trail leads you to the main corridor of snowmobile trails that transverse New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine. Your hike begins along the Salmon Hole Brook that passes by each cabin; its sights and sounds enhancing an already peaceful setting.

To top off the charm and warmth of our cabins, each cabin has the very hard to find feature of wood burning field stone and brick fireplaces. Add to that the outdoor fire pits along the serene stream and its remote yet not-so-distant setting from several natural wonders, small towns and villages and you have the makings of great memories.

Thought we cannot predict what will happen in 2021, we are always looking forward to what each day offers. We hope to see as many as our previous guests - as well as Rustic “newbies” - during the next 365 days. The best way to reserve your cabin is to book directly via our website at rusticlogcabins.com. If you are having difficulty booking, you can call us at 603-838-6731. Please note we now have a 2-night minimum and 3-night minimum during holiday and peak periods. Demand has been high and reservations are being made further in advance than in the past, so best to plan your stay as soon as possible.

Hoping for a safer and Happier New Year for everyone.

Your cabin is waiting ...

ANXIOUS TO ESCAPE TO THE WHITE MOUNTAINS AND FOREST? LOOK NO FURTHER THAN RUSTIC LOG CABINS

IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING THAT WE’VE MISSED YOU HERE AT RUSTIC LOG CABINS. Though many states still have stay-at-home practices in place (NH until May 31st), we are busy getting Rustic ready for the summer.

Throughout all the turmoil, the babbles of the stream have been a constant source of soothing sound, along with the musical chirps of our large variety of birds. Chiming in the chorus are our resident chipmunk and red squirrel families. They’re so cute, you’ll wanna pinch ‘em! And we just spotted a pair of loons on the brook, looking to build a nest for their babies. The flowers and trees are beginning to show their stuff, painting the mountainsides and valleys with brushstrokes of eye-catching colors and pastel hues.

For those that have not yet been here, let us tell you a bit more. Rustic Log Cabins are original authentic, unique, hand-hewn log cabins offering a unique atmosphere along the Salmon Hole Brook. Each cabin has a field stone or brick wood burning fireplace, a stone fire pit, plus a full kitchen, covered porch, charcoal grill, and yards. We rest on 16 acres and have only 6 log cabins, spaced 50’ apart or more, and our own private hiking trail, so there’s plenty of room that will give you a soothing sense of seclusion. Whether you are all nice n’ cozy inside your cabin, wandering outside for a stroll, or building a crackling fire in the fire pit, the burbles of the brook will echo in your ears. While you’re out & about, say hello to the gnomes.

We are in the White Mountains Region of New Hampshire. We are located near the awe-inspiring Franconia Notch State Park with its crystal colored lakes, beautiful hiking trails, cascading waterfalls and other natural wonders. The majestic White Mountains and White Mountains National Forest beckon. Many official NH Scenic Byways wind though these beautiful spaces. There’s Rt. 112 - better known as the Kancamagus Highway - Rts. 116, 302 and Rt. 117, aka Sugar Hill Rd., where Rustic Log Cabins reside.

We sell NH Pure Maple Syrup, crafts and jewelry of local crafters. We also have a self check-in/out procedure - which is an extension of our regular late check-in process – for your safety. A sanitized Welcome Bag with keys, booklet and kindling packs will be provided.

We have been quite busy in anticipation for the summertime. We have groomed the landscape, added decorative lighting to our foot bridge over the brook, split and stacked cords of firewood, built a new and very large pole barn-style woodshed, planted flowers, trees and shrubbery, installed more exterior lighting, and continued interior renovations to all the cabins. This includes an interior renovation of Cabin #2 with new kitchen countertop, bathroom, Southern Pine floors and we have added a 2-person, corner style whirlpool bath. However, nothing will be done to take away that rustic feel many come back for year after year.

A MESSAGE TO OUR GUESTS, PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE FROM ALL OF US AT RUSTIC LOG CABINS.

MANY OF YOU HAVE CALLED ABOUT WHAT IS HAPPENING AT RUSTIC. The answers are below.

FIRST, we are OPEN and have been designated an “essential” business by the State of New Hampshire. If you have a true need to travel, we are here to host you in a safe, secluded and comfortable environment. We have instituted our existing late check in policy which, inadvertently, has social distancing built in. A disinfected welcome bag with your key, booklet, and kindling wood is inside the bag that will be on the office porch when you arrive.

NEXT, we have enhanced our already stringent cleaning standards with NEW PRODUCTS and even TECHNOLOGY. In addition our regular use of disinfectant sprays (like Lysol), we have added a new laundry product - Lysol Sanitizer - to the daily routine. We have also added technology to our sanitizing practices with a purchase of a ULTRAVIOLET WAND that kills mold, bacteria and viruses. UV light, a component of natural sunlight, kills viruses by penetrating it’s protective “envelope” and destroys it.

ALSO, we are paying extra attention to high touch surface areas in all the cabins and the office. Keys, booklets, welcome bags, games, playing cards and other items from the office are sanitized when they leave the office and when they are returned. In some cases, we are quarantining items for at least 72 hours. We are also reviewing CDC guidelines and applying them to our daily procedures.

Most of all, YOUR SAFETY is the most important. If you feel the need to cancel or move your reservation to another date, we understand.

Be safe, be aware, check in on your friends and neighbors, especially the elderly, others that have daily challenges and we’ll see you again.
