Have you ever wondered why they’re called the White Mountains 🏔️ when they’re covered in so many beautiful colors 🍁?

The answer goes back centuries! Early European settlers could see the mountains ⛰️ from New Hampshire’s coast, where the distant summits appeared white against the horizon. Some believe the name came from their snow-covered peaks, while others point to the pale, rocky summits that could appear almost white from a distance. In fact, the region appeared on a map 🗺️ as the “White Hills” as early as 1677!

Although historians haven’t established one definitive explanation for the name, one thing is certain: these mountains 🏔️ have been catching people’s attention for hundreds of years and whether they’re covered in winter snow ❄️, summer greenery, or autumn’s 🍁 brilliant reds and golds, we think they’re pretty spectacular in every color.

🍁 It’s happening, Littleton.

The first hints of red, orange, and gold are making their way across town, and we’re officially entering one of our favorite times of year in the White Mountains 🏔️.

The fun part about early October? Every drive 🚘looks a little different than it did the day before. A few trees turn today, a hillside looks completely different tomorrow, and before you know it, the whole town is dressed for fall 🍁.

We’re only getting started 🤎.

Florida will still be there. New England fall 🍁 won’t.

For a few short weeks, the White Mountains 🏔️ trade green for shades of red, orange, and gold, and suddenly even an ordinary drive feels like part of the vacation. Add crisp air, mountain views, small-town Main Street, and all the cozy fall 🍂 energy, and we’re pretty comfortable staying right here 🤎.
