I just read a horrendous statistic. It is now likely that 80% of the population of the world have NEVER SEEN the actual Milky Way!

It is an abstract to 4 out of 5 people on earth today. I cannot fathom how the average person could possibly conceive who and what they are or "we" are, without such experience.

For literally tens of thousands of years, preceding the last 50-75, almost all humans had a daily (well, nightly, actually) experience of simply looking up and seeing, the (for all practical purposes) infinite. This is not to be in any way discounted in importance. That view is critical to mental health, for one.

It is critical to thinking outside and beyond oneself. It is critical to creativity, philosophical thinking and just musing or meditating. However, the easy convenience of just walking out your front door and immediately placing your view on the infinite doesn't exist for 80% of the people alive today.

Think about that.
