Hey everyone! This is Ranger Eric.

The sunset kayaking program yesterday evening was nothing short of breathtaking! I've seen the sunsets out here plenty of times at this point, and am still blown away by them every time regardless, but we also had a double rainbow come out during the program as well! We had a light shower not long before the program started, which set the stage perfectly for us to admire the rainbow in its entirety as it was hitting its most vibrant stage right as the sunset was also happening in the opposite direction. Absolutely incredible!

Keep an eye out for future program flyers to see when your next opportunity to join us on a sunset kayaking adventure will be!

As of today, the Polk County burn ban is now lifted. Campers may go back to making campfires, cooking with open flames, etc. Thank you everyone for y'all's patience!

Hey everyone! This is Ranger Eric.

Check out this Eastern Eyed Click Beetle I found earlier this year right by Headquarters! These beetles are very unique in that they have two eye-like markings on top of their thorax that are meant to scare away predators. If a predator gets a hold of them anyway, they will jerk their body back and forth really quickly, making a clicking sound that is also meant to confuse or scare what is trying to eat them. Really interesting beetles!

Hey everyone! This is Ranger Eric.

This morning, we had Texas Master Naturalists come out to the park to install some artificial fish reefs into the lake!

There are 2 located at the bottom of the lake directly underneath the fishing pier. When you walk to the very end the pier going towards the lake, one is located toward the end of the pier as you turn left and the other is located toward the opposite end of the pier as you turn right.

These reefs act as artificial structures for smaller fish to use as shelter and feeding grounds, which in turn attracts a lot of the larger game fish species anglers come to the pier to catch.

They are tethered to the pier and are being weighed down with cinder blocks, so they should stay in place and pose little to no issues to any anglers worried about getting their hooks stuck on them!

We are hoping these reefs will increase catch rates and attract species that may not have come to the pier otherwise!

Thank you so much to all of the Texas Master Naturalists who came out to the park today to help install them!
