Well folks it has been a great season here in Kansas. First thanks go out to Rob and Clayton. Those men showed up when I had no where to turn and put the house back together that a bad contractor left in a shambles with no electricity. Without them there would have been no season at Wingshooters Rest. I hunted from Nebraska down thru central Kansas, all public land. I didn't experience the uptick in pheasant numbers like some folks did. Killed 4 roosters all year and didn't miss many opportunities. Never saw a prairie Chicken on the ground (last year I found a bunch). Quail were not everywhere I went but when I found them I found them in good numbers with large coveys. Several 8 covey days and many 4,5,6 covey days. My first two weeks of the season was tied up with house rehab and cleaning but after that I got after them pretty steady. 8 GSPs / T**e 13.5 yrs old, Jack and Ruby Turned 6yrs old in December, Annie and Virgil Turned 2 in November, Merle, Sis and Waylon were 7 months old when the season started. My guests were less this year than previous yrs. One large group and 3 singles. I am thankful for the continued support from friends and the new folks that give us a try. I am back in Georgia today and we have a few inches of snow that fell last night. I am thankful for the opportunties that I have chasing wild birds with the dogs and the mercy God shows me on a daily basis. If I can ever be of service to the bird hunting community just reach out. I have a month of wild bird season left in Georgia if I decide to chase them down south and I will be guiding some hunts on preserves thru February.
Till next year. May your dogs be steady, Your shotgun swing like a wizards wand and your game bag hold just enough and never too many.
God Bless
Reece
