A lot of you ask: Why Genevieve? Who is Genevieve? 👀

The answer is a little bit Kentucky, a little bit French, and a lot more meaningful than you might think.

Genevieve is a type of limestone found in Kentucky, and limestone plays an important role in traditional bourbon production. Kentucky’s limestone-rich bedrock helps give bourbon its distinct character, making it a natural part of the story we wanted to tell here. You can see a nod to those layers on one of our Hotel Genevieve long sleeves, where the cake illustration represents the layers of Kentucky limestone beneath us and the bourbon made above them. So, no, it’s not just a random cake.

But there’s another Genevieve, too. Saint Genevieve is one of the patron saints of Paris, a nod to the French influence that runs deep through Louisville. And her being a woman pays respect to the women behind this project and the role they played in bringing Hotel Genevieve to life.

You’ll find little pieces of the story throughout the hotel, from our zine and merch to Saint Genevieve herself, tucked upstairs on our not-fried-chicken buckets.

So yes, Genevieve is a beautiful name. But to us, it represents the layers of Kentucky, Louisville’s French influence, bourbon, and the women who helped shape this place. There’s a little more to the name than meets the eye.

Fall in Louisville shows up in so many different ways. The leaves are just starting to change, with peak foliage expected later this month, and there’s no better time to get outside and see the city a little differently.

Take a walk from Hotel Genevieve to Waterfront Park, make the short drive to Cherokee Park, or head out into the countryside and let the roads take you somewhere new. Wherever you go, you’re bound to find a little color.

There’s nothing like a Kentucky fall. 🐎

Come on in to Suite Genevieve. A space designed for celebrating, gathering, and hosting the moments worth remembering. 🍾✨

We had the pleasure of hosting this lovely couple and their closest friends and family on their wedding day, and we can’t think of a better way to start the day.

With a spacious living room, kitchenette, separate bathroom, and beautiful natural light, Suite Genevieve gives you plenty of room to get ready, gather with your favorite people, celebrate before heading to the ceremony, or keep the celebration going after.

We’re excited to welcome everyone coming to town over the next two weekends, whether you’re here for the festivals or just enjoying Louisville like a local. 🤠
