Stop #235 on America 250 Stops in 250 Days along the Iowa Lincoln Highway Heritage Byway is the Herbert Hoover Highway where it crosses the Lincoln Highway and across the corner from the Lincoln Hotel Lowden Iowa.
The Herbert Hoover Highway was designated in 1923, prior to his presidency. It is a 42-mile series of roads that stretched between the old capitol in Iowa City and Lowden, as a tribute to his famine relief efforts after WW 1. The Highway passes through Tipton, Rochester, and West Branch, Hoover's boyhood home. This plaque is located on the side of the 1902 brick city Hall building.
The Herbert Hoover National Historic Site and the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum in West Branch have become good partners of ours!
