A resource being used on the is Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) or drones. They are used primarily to improve firefighter safety, and enhance natural resource management. By deploying UAS, the agency can gather critical real-time data while keeping personnel out of high-risk or inaccessible areas.
Drones (equipped with Plastic Sphere Dispensers) are used to start highly strategic, small-scale burnouts. This removes fuel from a wildfire's path without putting human pilots or ground crews at risk in dangerous terrain.
Infrared & Thermal Mapping: Drones equipped with infrared cameras can see through heavy smoke to map fire perimeters and identify hidden hotspots that standard aircraft might miss.
