One of Maine’s best “sea glass finding beaches”, Mowry Beach is a stunning little spot in Lubec, where the coast opens up along Lubec Channel with views toward Canada’s Campobello Island. This peaceful beach is part of the 48-acre Mowry Beach Preserve, protected by Downeast Coastal Conservancy, and it gives visitors access to one of the easternmost sandy beaches in the country.

The preserve includes 1,800 feet of shoreline along a 1.2-mile beach, plus a 1,700-foot boardwalk that winds through coastal scrub, sphagnum bog, and cattail swamp before reaching the shore. At low tide, the beach stretches wide with sand, pebbles, tide pools, driftwood, and rocky patches where sea glass often turns up, especially after rough weather.

The area is also known for birding, with nesting, migrating, and wintering birds using the shoreline and nearby wetlands. Low tide is the best time to walk, search slowly, take photos, and enjoy one of Maine’s quietest coastal treasures.
