Today marks exactly three years since we took the keys to the Ludington House, and we’re feeling incredibly grateful.

Running a historic bed and breakfast is a unique balance of honoring the past while constantly working on the present. Over the last three years, we’ve tackled so many project updates to preserve and elevate this beautiful property, ensuring it stands strong for generations to come.

Every time we work on a room, we think about the people who gave this house its heart. This wasn't just a grand structure; it was where AE and Eliza Cartier raised their children and built a life rooted in the Ludington community. Holding onto that history is an honor, and we love sharing those stories with everyone who steps through our front door.

Thank you for cheering us on through three years of preservation, hospitality, and passion projects. We couldn't do it without our incredible guests and local community! Here's to the next chapter.

We look forward to showcasing Ludington House Bed and Breakfast and Cartier Mansion on your next stay. Call or checkout our website: 231.845.7769 and Ludingtonhouse.com

From the Porch of 409 E. Ludington Ave.

Imagine listening in on a conversation between Antoine and Eliza Cartier back in late 1800s. We think it might have sounded something like this…….

Antoine: They say a man’s legacy is built on the timber he tallies and the businesses he leaves behind. But as I look at our home here on Ludington Avenue—finished just this year in 1878—I know my greatest work wasn’t found in the sawmills or the boom company. It was built right here within these walls.

Eliza: It is a house full of life, isn't it, Antoine? Nine children running through these halls is no quiet feat! People see the grand architecture and the fine woodwork, but I see the place where our babies grew into the men and women who will carry this city forward. A home isn't just a shelter; it’s the heart of the community we’ve worked so hard to nurture.

Antoine: True enough. Ludington gave me the opportunity to grow from a French-Canadian immigrant into a man of means, and it’s only right we give that strength back. Whether it’s serving as Mayor or ensuring our neighbors have steady work, a leader’s duty is to his people.

Eliza: And a neighbor’s duty is to their soul. Between our devotion to St. Simon’s and ensuring our door is always open, I hope we’ve left this town a bit kinder than we found it.
Antoine & Eliza: To our friends and neighbors in Ludington: May your hearths be as warm as ours, and may your roots grow as deep as the white pines.

We are so honored to have received a beautiful historic hall tree as a donation to The Ludington House.

When it first arrived, it was showing its age and in need of some serious care, but we saw the potential beneath the surface. After weeks of careful repair and thoughtful refresh, it’s nearly ready to welcome guests in the entryway once again.

It’s pieces like this that make The Ludington House feel like a living history book.

We hope you enjoy this amazing piece of history when you reserve your room with us at ludingtonhouse.com or call us at 231.845.7769
