Breakfast on the Connecticut

Breakfast on the Connecticut Bed And Breakfast, Lyme NH, 12 miles fom Dartmouth College and Hanover, NH

On a knoll overlooking the scenic Connecticut River and the hills of Vermont, Breakfast on the Connecticut sits on 23 acres in rural Lyme, just minutes from Hanover and Dartmouth College. While our own property offers ample opportunity for canoeing, kayaking, fishing, biking, snow-shoeing, or cross-country skiing, we are also close to swimming, golf, horseback riding, downhill skiing, ice skating

and major recreational areas of both New Hampshire and Vermont. Minutes from the Appalachian Trail and an easy drive to the White Mountains, we are ideally located for those who like to spend a day hiking, bird-watching or sightseeing. Whatever the season, Breakfast on the Connecticut is the perfect place to do it all or simply relax.

Greta Garbo supposedly said “I want to be alone” but what she really said was “I want to be left alone,” and that is different. In these days of public health concerns, perhaps wanting to be left alone is very understandable. And that may explain the quiet attraction of our separate three bedroom guesthouse which is totally contained and set off from all the hustle and bustle. After being booked solid since we reopened, just 12 days of availability in August, none in September, and then some time in October. Check it out for you and your family. Truly the perfect getaway if, like Garbo, you and your family want to be left alone in one of the most beautiful places in the Upper Valley and on the river.

Looking for a few good guests... First of all, yes, we are open. Second, in this crazy COVID cautionary world we have altered our operations slightly for the health of all. If you are from outside of NH, you must assure us that you have been practicing social distancing measures for at least two weeks before you arrive. Also gone are the sumptuous breakfast buffets, replaced by a continental “breakfast to go” with disposable everything per NH guidance. Finally, we are not looking to fill every room but rather 50% capacity is our goal so that everyone feels safe. At the same time we still sit on 23 lovely acres high above the serene Connecticut River and there really is no difficulty social distancing when there is so much space surrounding us! Finally, to whet your appetite for our rural oasis, here are a few photos!! Not a crowded line anywhere in sight!

There really is no way to describe for folks who aren’t here this year just how eye-popping the colors are this fall. And photos just can’t do it justice. As one guest said this morning “you just go from one breathtaking scene to the next!”

In August and especially September the days are warm but the nights are cool, which is perfect weather for sitting outside and watching the river flow by. If you are more active, you can launch a canoe or kayak from our dock. And there is always someone friendly to make you breakfast! It’s a great morning here in the river in Lyme NH!!

Dartmouth graduation party! Women’s lacrosse team seniors and their parents. What great fun and food! A sweet barbecue. London broil, Carolina chicken, cold poached salmon in dill sauce, potato salad, cole slaw, mixed greens, grilled veggies, mushroom caps for the vegans and so much more. All in perfect weather. Heaven must be Dartmouth green.
