As another Mackinac Island season begins to change, we’re reaching that bittersweet time of year when we start saying goodbye to some very special members of our Mackinac House family. ❤️

Our international student workers are beginning their journeys home, and I want to take a moment to say just how incredibly grateful I am for each and every one of them.

Coming to a new country, often thousands of miles from home, and spending an entire season working long days in hospitality takes courage, dedication, patience, and a whole lot of heart. These young people came here as employees, but somewhere along the way, they became so much more than that.

They have worked hard, made us laugh, shared their cultures and traditions with us, learned ours, cared for our guests, supported one another, and helped make The Mackinac House what it is. They have been part of the early mornings, the crazy busy days, the inside jokes, the challenges, the celebrations, and all of those little moments that make a season on Mackinac so unforgettable.

I hope they leave knowing that their contributions mattered. That THEY mattered. And that this little hotel on a little island in Michigan is a better place because they were part of it.

To those heading home: thank you for trusting us with a chapter of your lives. Thank you for your hard work, your smiles, your friendship, and the memories you’re leaving behind.

I hope when you think back on your summer on Mackinac Island, you remember us as fondly as we will remember you.
