46 years ago today, Somewhere in Time was released — and its story continues at Grand Hotel.
As we celebrate Somewhere in Time Weekend, we are honored to mark this special anniversary with two remarkable pieces of film history, generously donated by Set Decorator Mary Ann Biddle.
The first is a plaque bearing the words of Richard Matheson, author of Bid Time Return and screenwriter of Somewhere in Time: “That which you think becomes your world.” The words are spoken by Christopher Reeve’s character, Richard Collier, in one of the film’s most memorable moments.
Making this piece even more special, Mary Ann also donated a photograph of Christopher Reeve as Richard Collier in his Chicago office, with this very plaque hanging on the wall beside him. The plaque and photograph will now be displayed together in our Moments in Time Room, joining the original carved chair Mary Ann previously donated and other treasured pieces of Somewhere in Time history.
Today, with Grand Hotel filled with guests in period attire celebrating the romance and enduring magic of this beloved film, we can think of no more fitting day to welcome these pieces home.
Our heartfelt thanks to Mary Ann for entrusting Grand Hotel with these treasures and helping us preserve the legacy of Somewhere in Time for generations to come.
