Thank you to everyone who came out for our September work day. The cabins and hogans got their end of summer cleaning and the Camp Carew sign got a much needed facelift.

These workdays are an essential part of keeping Camp Carew going. Our awesome volunteers come out and give their time as well as their skills and dedication to make camp a better place for everyone. The workdays also provide something that is a core part of the summer camp experience, fellowship and community. It almost feels like being a camper again because we get to catch up with people we haven't seen in a while and laugh and stomp around in the woods.

Hello Friends of Camp Carew,

As summer is coming to an end I wanted to update you on the progress of the various projects that we have had going on.

As many of you know we were unable to have summer camp this year due to a critical structural issue in our main building Calvin Hall. I am happy to say that the repairs have been approved and are underway and that we currently have temporary bracing in place to prevent further wear and tear while we are waiting on materials for the full project.

We have also been working on a new bathhouse for our hard-working summer staff. The state of our old bathhouse, one of the original buildings of our 75 year old camp, had been below our standards for some time and it was time for a change. We decided, before the situation with Calvin Hall, that it was time for an update. We have built and put in our new bathhouse and a new deck out front is next on the list.

The short version: We are fixing Calvin and have a new Bathhouse!

Message from the Director

Hello friends of Camp Carew,

I wanted to reach out and give some information on the situation at Camp Carew this summer. I have contacted many of you to inform you of what is happening, but if you did not have a camper signed up this summer you may be unaware.

The bottom line is, we had to cancel camp this summer. This is not a decision that was made lightly and has entirely to do with the safety of our campers and staff members.

The reasoning behind this decision is that we found some critical structural issues in our main building, Calvin Hall. This is where we have all of our meals, where we cook and store our food, where our nurse's station is, and it also serves as our primary storm shelter. We have met with a structural engineer who is going to be getting us a design to fix the problems in the building, but this takes time.

Any plan that could be put together would put us past the summer camp season. With all that in mind I made the initial decision to close camp for the summer and was backed up by the administration of Kemmerer Village and the Camp Carew Advisory Committee.

There are NO PLANS to close camp for good, and we are optimistic that we will be able to continue our mission in the future.

Our number one priority is and has always been the safety of our campers and staff.

Thank you to everyone who came out last month to help us get camp ready for the summer! We could not get everything done if it were not for the help of our awesome volunteers.

We have another work day coming up this weekend on Saturday. In addition to our annual unit director training day we will be spending our day putting a fresh coat of paint on our cabins and hogans.

Work day begins at 8 and ends at 4. Lunch is provided. Feel free to drop by whenever you have time!
