Rare Photo Of Roseate Spoonbill Family … ☀️💗☀️ Roseate Spoonbill babies, known for their endearing appearance, are a sight to behold. These charming waders are born with a distinctive white down covering, resembling tiny balls of cotton. Nesting in colonies amidst lush wetlands and coastal areas, their breeding season typically corresponds with the arrival of the rainy season. Nests are carefully constructed with sticks and vegetation, often in trees near water bodies, providing protection for the vulnerable chicks.
Mating among Roseate Spoonbills involves intricate courtship displays, where they engage in synchronized movements and vibrant plumage displays to attract potential partners. Their vivid pink feathers and unique spoon-shaped bills contribute to their allure during these rituals. Despite their captivating presence, Roseate Spoonbills are considered rare due to habitat loss and disturbances in their natural breeding areas. Conservation efforts are crucial to preserve their delicate ecosystems and ensure their continued existence.
In terms of longevity, Roseate Spoonbills have been known to live for up to 15 to 20 years in the wild, provided they are free from significant threats and disruptions to their habitats. As these birds are dependent on healthy wetlands and water bodies, protecting their breeding and foraging grounds is paramount for securing their future in the wild.

Happy Monday! It may be hotter than a stolen tamale in August, but at least there's plenty of elbow room most days at the north jetty! The water flattens out and clarity generally improves, too. Check out the inlet's fishing action at www.sitd.us/our-world-famous-fishing-report

Flashback Friday: For you newbies, Sebastian Inlet is manmade (in case you were wondering). While there were temporary openings after WWII, none lasted long. Work to open an inlet began again in 1947. In 1948, using surplus U.S. Navy demolitions, Roy O. Couch, Harry C. Goode, Sr., Jake Brannin and others blasted the inlet open again. It has remained open ever since. www.sitd.us/the-history-of-sebastian-inlet
