FYI to campers, this is a comprehensive list of current fire restrictions in place for our park and surrounding areas.

Today, July 23, 2026, Mesa Verde entered Stage 1 fire restrictions after rescinding Stage 2 restrictions previously in place. Campfires are again allowed in Morefield Campground in established pits and grills. Remember that reduced fire danger does not mean no fire danger. If you choose to have fire, please stay aware of the weather and your surroundings, and always be sure your fire is attended. When you leave, check that the fire is dead out.

Remember:
- Campfires and charcoal fires are only allowed in Morefield Campground in the provided pits and grills.
- Do not discharge or use any kind of fireworks or other pyrotechnic devices. They are always prohibited.

🚫 FIRE BAN IN EFFECT 🚫

Effective as of 6:00 a.m. today, May 28, 2026, a fire ban is now in effect for all unincorporated areas of Montezuma County, Colorado, pursuant to Montezuma County Resolution No. 2-2026.

Until further notice:
🔥 Open fires are prohibited
🎆 Fireworks are prohibited

Violating the fire ban may result in a summons, mandatory court appearance, and fines of up to $1,000.

Current dry conditions and elevated fire danger make it critical that everyone does their part to help prevent wildfires and protect our communities, public lands, homes, and first responders.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and commitment to keeping Montezuma County safe.

FIRE BAN TO BE REINSTATED IN MONTEZUMA COUNTY

The Board of County Commissioners has voted to reinstate a fire ban in all unincorporated areas of Montezuma County due to increasing fire danger and dry conditions. The fire ban will be in effect as of Thursday, May 28, at 6:00 am.

This fire ban means:
-No open burning
-No agricultural burning
-No campfires
-No use of fireworks in unincorporated areas

Residents are urged to use extreme caution with anything that could spark a fire. With current conditions, one spark is all it takes.

Please help protect our communities, firefighters, public lands, homes, and natural resources by following all fire restrictions.
