w portal and allow guests to experience the world’s first bed & breakfast where you are assured you will NOT get a good night sleep. Along with the haunted theatrics occurring during the stay, there have been several paranormal investigation teams that documented an abundance of activity throughout the building. In the past some of our more famous guests include Butch Patrick, who played Eddie Munster on the TV series, Miko Hughes who played Gage in the original Pet Cemetery, and Daniel O’Donnell , an Irish singer who hosts his own travel show in Ireland. It is the oldest commercial structure in the downtown historical district of Manitowoc and was was built in 1851. Our victim rooms include our Coulrophobia room for all the clown lovers, the Nightmare room embraces all your fears and uncertainties, and the Pirate room which holds the secrets of the deep dark waters. After check in, you are invited to join the daunting host family, who resides in the building permanently, for a bit of an “unhappy” hour. This gathering takes place at the in house watering hole named The Shrunken Head due to its unique trading post decor, and includes pocket billiards on a one of a kind leopard table and exceptional specialty drinks. The Shrunken Head is deemed the world’s only “Creepeasy” since it is open to the public, by reservation only, and is also available for parties, meetings, and small weddings. In the morning a “goremet” breakfast is served for the overnight guests at 10:00am. After "Unhappy Hour" you are welcome to roam. Historical downtown Manitowoc offers many wonderful restaurants, pubs, shops, and our very own Maritime Museum all within walking distance. But…..make sure you are back in the building by 11:00pm when the doors will be locked! For your own safety, lights must be out and guests must be in bed by midnight, to accommodate the things that go bump in the night. Remember, you will not get a good night’s sleep here…..muahahaha! Every great ride ends in a gift shop and this building is no exception. The Mad Hatter is open Monday through Saturday and on Sunday exclusively for the guests…..where every day is Halloween. The store includes a Potter section with wands, spirit boards, and witch oddities, an incense nook, and a costume accessory corner. Horror merchandise is sold throughout along with one of a kind consignment items made by artists in Wisconsin. There is also a huge selection of body jewelry, pillows, stickers, masks, and things you may not find anywhere else…especially when it’s not Halloween season. Cancellation Policy for the Dead by Dawn Dead and Breakfast
Your card will be charged for your stay 30 days prior to your reservation. If any additional charges are incurred during your stay, they will be charged at checkout. After inspection any damage or theft will be charged at that time. Making a reservation at a bed and breakfast is not the same as making a hotel reservation. Due to our small size, cancellations affect us significantly. A last minute cancellation gives us little chance of re-booking a room. For this reason we uphold a strict cancellation policy:
• Guests are responsible for payment of all nights reserved regardless of their actual arrival or departure date. No-shows are also responsible for full payment of their entire reservation.
• Cancellation of (including changes to) a confirmed reservation must be made 30 or more days prior to your scheduled arrival to receive a refund. All cancellations are subject to a $30.00 administrative processing fee per room, per night.
• Cancellation of (including changes to) a confirmed reservation made 29 days or less prior to your scheduled arrival will only receive a refund if we can re-book the room to other guests, minus a $30.00 administrative processing fee per room, per night. There are no exceptions to this policy including sickness, family emergencies, or weather related issues. Naturally, we will make every effort to re-rent the room and return your deposit.
