They’ve Been Taking Up Residence Along These Walls For Decades, But With What’s Coming NEXT, It Was Finally Time For Them To Pack Their Bags 👋

Removing Radiators Might Not Be The Most Exciting Part Of The Renovation…But What We're Making Room For DEFINITELY Is 👀

Because Later THIS MONTH, One Of The Biggest Visual Transformations Since We Purchased Lincoln Motor Court Begins…

✨ THE NEW FLOORS ARE FINALLY HAPPENING! ✨

And We’ve Put A LOT Of Thought Into What’s Going In.

We Wanted Something That Could Handle The Next Generation Of Travelers While Still Looking Like It Belongs In A Motor Court That Opened In The 1940s...And We Think We Found It!

The Most Interesting Part About Lincoln Motor Court Is The History… And While It’s Proven Surprisingly Difficult To Find Much That Dates Back Before 1960, We Were Lucky Enough To Recently Track Down An ORIGINAL Lincoln Motor Court Postcard From Our Earliest Years!

This Postcard Is Especially Fascinating Because It Advertises Some Of The Amenities Travelers Could Expect More Than 80 Years Ago — Including:

💧 Hot Water
🔥 Heat
🛏️ “Hollywood Beds”
✨ And “Strictly Modern” Accommodations

Today, Those Things Barely Warrant A Mention, But During The Early Days Of Roadside Travel, Amenities Like Hot Water, Private Showers And Modern Heating Were Genuine Selling Points — Luxuries That Weren’t Even Standard In Every American Home At That Point!

It’s A Small Piece Of Cardstock, But It Gives Us An Incredible Glimpse Into How Lincoln Motor Court Looked, How It Was Marketed, And What Travelers Were Looking For During The Golden Age Of The American Road Trip.

Historic Maps From The Electric Vehicle Association Of America Show Charging Stations Along And Near Portions Of The Lincoln Highway More Than 113 years Ago. Early EV Travelers Could Recharge At Garages, Hotels, Businesses And Dedicated Charging Facilities in 1914 — Long Before Today’s Modern Charging Networks.

Fast Forward About A Century, And Electric Cars Are Traveling America’s First Coast-To-Coast Highway Once Again.
It Only Seems Fitting That The Last Motor Court On America’s First Coast-To-Coast Road Has A Place To Plug In🔌

Nine Years Ago, Bob & Debbie Altizer Had This Sign Custom Built To Faithfully Recreate The Original That Welcomed Travelers In The 1940s.
It Was A Labor Of Love By The Altizers, A Small Fortune, And A Tribute To The History Of Lincoln Motor Court.

Sadly, If You’ve Visited Over The Last Few Years, You’ve Probably Noticed That Neon Slowly Dimming And Fading Away… Until Now. 👏

The Challenge We Faced Since March?

Who Knew Neon Repair Was A Dying Art?
We Sure Didn’t!

As Much As We Love Preserving History, A Great Night’s Sleep Is One Thing We Don’t Believe Should Be Vintage.

We Were In A Mad Dash To Ready The Motor Court For Guests On The 2nd Day Of Our Ownership In March Of This Year When The Original Wrought Iron Bed Frame In This Cabin Literally FELL APART.

Realizing Every Single Bed At The Motor Court Was A Double, We Knew Some Of Our Guests Would Appreciate A Bed Fit For A King - Even If The King Had To Crawl In!

This Cabin Was Redesigned With A Blend Of Antiques & Modern Furnishings and, Of Course, A Wall-To-Wall King Bed 👑

A Few Months Ago, I Was Having One Of Those Days 😅

Dressed A Mess & Knee-Deep In Renovations On One Of Our Cabins, We Had A Completely Unexpected Visitor Pull Into Lincoln Motor Court — Renowned Journalist Salena Zito.

Salena Was Retracing The Historic Forbes Trail For An Upcoming Story In The Washington Post When Her Travels Brought Her Right Into Our Driveway.
What Started As A Surprise Visit Turned Into A Wonderful Conversation About History, Preservation & The Spirit Of The Lincoln Highway Here In Bedford County.

A Few Months Later, Her Story Has Been Published In The Washington Examiner, And It Brought A Few Tears To Our Eyes 🥹🥹

For Those Who Have Followed Our Journey, Our Original Plan Was To “Simply” Return Lincoln Motor Court To Its Glory Days Through A Multi-Year Restoration — Living Here Part-Time While Slowly Bringing Each Cabin & Corner Of The Property Back To Life.

But Somewhere Along The Way, That Plan Changed.

Between The Incredibly Rich History Of Lincoln Motor Court, The Beauty & Community We’ve Found Here In Bedford County, and Avery’s Family Roots Tying Him Directly To The Motor Court’s Earliest Days, We Quickly Developed A Love For This Place That Went Far Beyond A Renovation Project…It Had Become A Home.

Our Plan May Have Changed A Little…But The Mission Is As Clear As Ever:
