Established in 1940 and recently renovated, the Marathon Motel sits on 10 acres with 10 newly decorated rooms *WITH UPDATED HEATING AND AC UNITS!!!* divided among four duplex cabins. The motel is a wonderful example of vintage Americana. Here, guests can relax in the adobe-walled courtyard with flowering native plants, fireplace, fountain, and spectacular views of the mountains and starry skies. The easy-to-navigate RV Park has 19 full hookups with an array of services. Camping is available in the rear of the property that provides seclusion, privacy, and a beautiful view of the mountains.

Our full-hookup RV sites are just $40 a night, with water, electrical, and sewer hookups, plus Wi-Fi throughout the property. Whether you’re rolling in with a vintage Westfalia or a home on wheels of your own, there’s a spot for you here.

Park it, plug in, and stay awhile. The mountains aren’t going anywhere.

A little reminder of what’s waiting above us out here. ✨

Photo by Luis Muñoz, captured right here at the Marathon Motel, where the Milky Way stretches across some of the darkest skies around. We’re nearing the end of the season for those bright views of the galaxy’s core, which will soon slip out of our evening sky until spring. There’s still time to catch it, though—and we can’t think of a better place to spend one of these last nights beneath the stars.

The Milky Way will be back. Until then, we’ll keep looking up.

Still thinking about Couchfest. 🛋️🎶

It’s been a year since Couchfest, which turned our courtyard into one big living room, with good music, good company, and the kind of evening that makes you wish you could rewind and do it all over again. We’re awfully fond of these memories.

And who knows… maybe there’s another couch or two in our future. 👀

Friday is bringing us a new moon. 🌑✨

And around here, that’s something worth paying attention to. During a new moon, the Moon is between Earth and the Sun, so very little moonlight reaches the night sky. That means less light washing out the stars—and a much better chance of seeing the faint galaxies, nebulae, Milky Way, and other deep-sky objects hiding above us.

With Marathon’s Bortle 1 skies and a new moon overhead, Friday is about as good as it gets for looking up.

Look closely… do you see the eagle? 🦅✨

Captured by Carrie Sprinkle from the dark skies here in Marathon, this is M16—the Eagle Nebula. Right in the center are the famous Pillars of Creation, towering clouds of gas and dust where new stars are forming.

This image is made from 20 hours of total exposure at the Marathon Motel, combining LRGB and hydrogen-alpha data to bring out the incredible detail and color hiding inside this distant nebula.

Not a bad thing to find in our backyard. Thanks for sharing!

October’s Star Party Calendar is here. 🌙✨

Not sure what all the colors mean? Here’s your guide to planning a night under the stars:

🟢 Green: Great nights for astronomy, with darker skies and better conditions for spotting fainter objects.

🟡 Yellow: The Moon is getting brighter, so some of the fainter stars and deep-sky objects become harder to see. There’s still plenty up there to explore.

🔴 Red: Bright moonlight washes out the faint stuff, so we take a little break from Star Parties around the brightest part of the lunar cycle.

All Star Parties are weather permitting, so check the calendar, find your night, and come look up with us. ✨

Yesterday marked the first day of fall, and we’re feeling it! 🍂

Our courtyard isn’t quite putting on this kind of show just yet, but give it a little time. The temperatures have been beautiful lately, the mornings are getting crisp, and those fall colors will make their way around the desert before we know it.

We’re ready for you, autumn.
