Cliff Dwellers Lodge & Restaurant is at the base of Vermilion Cliffs National Monument in one of the Western United States’ most spectacular settings. We are on the road that connects the North and South Rims of the Grand Canyon. In addition, it’s an easy drive to several other National Parks, Monuments, Lake Powell, the Navajo and Hopi Nations. We are home to Lees Ferry Anglers Fly Shop and Guide

Service. Located adjacent to the Colorado River, fly-fishers, kayakers and river rafters travel from around the world to stay with us. In the past few years, people have discovered that our lodge provides the ideal base for Southwestern vacations. Come stay with us, dine with us, see the sights, raft the Colorado River, fly-fish Lees Ferry on the Colorado, watch the birds, hike, photograph sunsets or just relax. Cliff Dwellers Lodge was built in the early 1950s as lodging for Bill Green’s famous air boat trips up the Colorado River for adventurous travelers visiting Rainbow Bridge. Lees Ferry Anglers purchased the lodge in 2001 and immediately began renovation, remodeling and redecoration. It is appropriate that half a century after the lodge was built, it has returned to its roots: providing a fine lodging experience to a river-based business. Lees Ferry Anglers, a fly-fishing guide service and retail fly-fishing business, was founded in 1989 by the current owners, Terry & Wendy Gunn. In less than a decade, we grew our business into the largest fishing guide service in the U.S. We apply a simple successful strategy, with an understanding that exemplary customer service and a quality lodging experience results in return business.

Lees Ferry Angling Report — June 4th
(+ a flashback Friday photo)

Current flows: 6,000–10,700 CFS
Water temperature: 59 degrees

A positive note for the future of Lees Ferry is the successful spawn observed this season. Seeing juvenile trout in the river is an extremely welcome sight and provides encouragement.

At this time fish health appears to be good. We are approaching higher water temperatures through the summer months until fall, and fish should be released immediately. At this time patterns and techniques remain identical to last month.

During the hotter summer months it is important to stay hydrated on the water. I have already seen heat related illnesses this week, so anglers should take conditions seriously, pace accordingly, and plan for adequate water intake and shade whenever possible.

On a lighter note, summer on the river is also one of the best times of year to be out here with family and friends—long days, good company, and memories made on the water that tend to last far beyond the season itself.

Fine cuisine at Cliff Dwellers Lodge is available, and the staff is always happy to serve you. The restaurant’s commitment to flavorful dishes continues to be a highlight for guests throughout the season.

Fly recommendations for the walk-in area remain the same as upriver:

* Midge X #16
* Red San Juan Worms #16
* Ginger Scuds #16–18
* Olive Woolly Buggers #16 (200 gr sink tip recommended)

The dry-dropper bite has also picked up, with occasional hits on the dry fly. Royal Wulff and Parachute Adams in size 16 are proving to be excellent choices

We always say even if you don’t catch fish, it’s still a great place to be! But catching fish is pretty good too!
