Join us as we celebrate the culmination of Motel’s second artist residency with a showcase featuring three incredible artists:

Enrique Mattiacci fashion portrait photographer whose sincere, intuitive images explore identity through the lens.

Ariel ☆ Writer behind Icarus Eater, publishing original monthly work spanning deep-dive essays, short fiction, and pop culture analysis.

Jennifer Banks Sims technical fashion designer and textile artist; her 25-year career spans Adidas, Jason Wu, and Marc Jacobs, and her sculptural fabric work explores emotional storytelling through material

Our first-ever artist residency wrapped last Friday, and we’re still sitting with the gratitude.

Thank you to Katherine Hunsaker , Shannon Elder , and Valeria Y. González for five nights of slow mornings, shared meals, and work that pushed each of you somewhere new. Watching color, collage, and movement fill this place — it’s exactly what we hoped for when we started this.

A special thank you to Julie Speed for opening up her studio and sharing her wisdom with our artists — that kind of generosity doesn’t go unnoticed.

And a huge hug of a thank you to hilary (she/her) , for guiding this group through Marfa and showing them the town the way only someone who loves it could.

Everyone left as friends, that was always the point. Group two of the residency starts next week!

MOTEL's first artist residency showcase — this Thursday, July 30th. All are welcome.

Join us as we celebrate the culmination of Motel’s inaugural artist residency with a showcase featuring three incredible artists:

Katherine Hunsaker : Austin-based abstract painter whose vibrant, intuitive canvases translate emotion and memory into color, shape, and texture.

Shannon Elder: Denver-based interdisciplinary artist, curator, and event producer working across collage, writing, and visual storytelling, with a focus on identity and connection.

Valeria González: El Paso Based Founder & Artistic Director of VALLETO, a contemporary dance company; her work explores the divine feminine through vulnerable, boundary-pushing movement.

A little reminder about Miguel’s Auto Shop (Suite No. 5 @ Motel) >>>

Originally inspired by the faded “Mikey’s Auto Shop” sign uncovered during preservation, the space became a tribute to Jantzen’s dad — affectionately known as “Miguel” when he’s in Mexico, and their shared love for working on old cars.

With help from our friend , we preserved the spirit of the original auto shop while creating something deeply personal in its place.
