Hi again everyone>>> ANOTHER crazy story but this time NOT about something that directly happened here at the motel.
So..... a week ago I posted about wanting to hire a local teenage boy/girl to come by once a week and simply mow the grass here. NO raking or edging or anything. JUST mowing. We're talking maybe 45 minutes to an hour at the extreme max of time to do this. The pay was $25 bucks. Basically $25/hour. I think that is really fair, a local boy/girl can pick up a little spending money each week....and we get the grass cut.
WELL>>>>> BOY #1's parent calls. We make the deal. 14yr old son, wants to do the job. GREAT right? WRONG. Calls back today and says he needs $50 BUCKS. Ummm......sorry, NO. It's barely an hour of work.
BOY #2's parent, the "backup". BOY #1 flamed out wanting $50 bucks so previously BOY #2 was in for the $25. 12 yr old boy ok.
Contact them today and now BOY #2 wants $30 bucks.
AGAIN>>>>BARELY AN HOUR OF WORK.
And this is using OUR mower so it is not even their mower that wear and tear happens to. PURELY labor......gas mower, no edging or raking or anything, JUST mow the grass.
Personally I think it's a good deal. $25 an hour for a boy or girl to just mow the grass for 45 to MAYBE 60 minutes.
SOOOOO>>>> I'll mow it and get out of the office and enjoy the sun.
Thoughts anyone?????? Is it just me?????

Just a weird observation. Are there REALLY that many people that do NOT have data plans on their phone service????????
I've stayed at MANY hotels and motels in my life. I don't think even one time I wondered about the WIFI. Maybe it happened 2 or 3 times because for whatever reason my phone service was not very good. Other than those rare times, I've NEVER wondered about what the motel or hotel WIFI was.
We get lots of out of state contractors here, guys that make REALLY GOOD money plus per diem and yet, no data plan on their phone.
We just got a guest who is an over the road long distance truck driver. No data plan on his phone.
Is this a thing???????????????? I don't even think about it. My phone has had unlimited data for literally YEARS. When I go to let's say Walmart>>> I'm not at all concerned about their store WIFI. Or ANY business. Eating at a fast food restaurant I am not trying to figure out how to get on their WIFI.
So again, just curious, IS IT JUST ME?????
Our property has WIFI but it just kind of amazes me how people that you know make REALLY GOOD money don't have a data plan with their phone.
Just a weird observation.....................................................

Good morning everyone......I thought I would drop ANOTHER "THINGS PEOPLE DO" post and combine it with ANOTHER reason we do NOT rent to locals.
Occasionally I will rent to a local, it depends on a few factors, maybe they are getting work done in their house or something and I take that into consideration.
THIS local that I foolishly allowed in for exactly TWO nights......let me stress TWO NIGHTS ONLY.........
She comes into the office on the second night to inform me the TV is broken and does not work. Ok.........so I go to the room to see what happened. AGAIN....TWO NIGHTS OKAY.......
She has rearranged the furniture in the room because she suddenly decided she is an interior decorator, she has moved like a two bedroom house of stuff into the room because obviously you need all that for a, AGAIN.....TWO NIGHT stay, she has been busy unplugging the HDMI cord out of the TV and seemingly jamming her ROKU TV HDMI into the port on the back of the TV, apparently switching back and forth from ROKU to cable OVER AND OVER and since it is not her TV she didn't care and has pushed the port up INTO the TV breaking the port. PLUS somehow the TV came unplugged from the outlet located BEHIND the dresser.
I was FINALLY able to get the HDMI plugged back in and the TV working again.
AGAIN>>>>TWO NIGHTS.
And there we have it, a combination post of THINGS PEOPLE DO along with why we DON'T rent to locals.

Hi again everyone.....another installment of "Things people do".........
So this past Christmas we had an online reservation that was maybe a week before Christmas.
This lady, under cover of darkness, used our room for Christmas gift wrapping. We did not know until the next morning when housekeeping went in and we discovered literally around 20 empty boxes as well as 3 huge empty boxes left in the room. We concluded the empty boxes had contained various gifts as there was pieces of unused Christmas wrapping paper left behind as well.
She was shocked that we kept half the room deposit since all the boxes she left behind was almost half a trash dumpster full.
Yep......"Things people do"🤣🤣🤣🤣

Hi again everyone,
Well, next in my series of "THINGS PEOPLE DO"..........................WHY Marinette Inn stopped allowing fisherman (Generally speaking) from staying here.
This goes back to a year ago, forgive me for not knowing specifics such as when walleye season is/limit one can catch........
BUT, we had one weekend, 2 guys got one room and 2 other guys got another room. Friday night check-in, Sunday morning check out.
WELL WELL WELL>>>>>
IDK where the guys in one room fished but they were apparently in mud slopping around. These fine outstanding men returned here, at night, mud covered boots on, and kept them on in the room. I mean slept in them. Mud ALL over the floor, ALL over the beds, mud ALL around the room. They laid in bed drinking beer and throwing the empties on the floor. They slithered out before sunrise.
Our housekeeper had a stroke when she opened the door to go in to clean the room.
EVEN WORSE was done in the other room. Those 2 fine outstanding men, from what I have been told, were WAY over the catch limit. BUT, during their stay, again at night, they dragged coolers into the room and used the room bathroom to clean their catches. We had fish guts, scales, heads and blood ALL OVER the bathroom and walked out on the floor of the room.
THIS is why we stopped renting to fisherman. Those 4 men killed it for everyone unless they are willing to pay a HUGE upfront room security deposit.
So if you are coming to fish for the weekend here, be prepared to put up a $500 dollar security on the room. I know what you will say.......that is outrageous. Maybe so. BUT, here is how we look at it, that will discourage disgusting behavior. Generally they arrive in a $50-70,000 thousand dollar pickup truck towing a $75-150,000 thousand dollar fishing boat so a $500 dollar security seems fair.

Hi everyone..........Looks like I will make a series of posts about the stuff people do. As a business it seems a bit unfair that anyone can leave a review about the business but the business cannot review customers, in our case, guests.
So I thought I would review some guests.....no names......just "THINGS PEOPLE DO".........................................................
Last night I had 2 guys come in, an online reservation, each had a separate room. Came around 9pm and were gone around 5 this morning. 8 hours in our rooms.......EIGHT HOURS.
Guest number one, well, he took the smoke detector off the wall and literally stole the 9-volt battery from it. I swear, you can't make it up.
His friend, guest number 2 decided to change around the HDMI connections in the back of the TV and change the language to Spanish. (He was NOT Spanish). THEN, he outright took the smoke detector. Maybe to go with the 9-volt battery his friend took from the smoke detector in his room.
So here we have 2 guys, spent 8 hours in each room. Took a 9-volt battery from one smoke detector, a missing smoke detector, had to replace the HDMI cord and reprogram the cable setback box and change the language.
But I can't leave a review about a guest. People are under this illusion that "The customer is always right" but the truth tells a very different story. The customer, or guest, is NOT always right.
Managing motel properties is strange, people do the weirdest things. NOT all, but some do things there is NO explanation for.

I didn't think I would have to post this but the Marinette Inn is CLOSED. It should be pretty obvious but apparently we need to remind people there is a BLIZZARD going on.
We have 3 feet of snow on the parking lot.

Hi everyone,
We get many reservations booked online here at Marinette Inn.
It seems people do NOT understand that there are huge differences between a HOTEL and a MOTEL. We are a MOTEL.
The primary difference is amenities.
NO>>>>we do NOT offer a free breakfast.
NO>>>>we do NOT have a pool or sauna.
Those seem to be the main things people are confused about.
There is a reason that room rates are HIGHER at HOTELS than MOTELS. HOTELS offer more amenities, like free breakfasts and things like that. This is why a HOTEL room will cost you quite a bit more money. It is winter right now so everybody has what are called "winter rates".............our rate is generally $65 dollars. For $65 dollars you do NOT get a swimming pool and free breakfast. To think otherwise confuses me. AGAIN, there is a reason that a HOTEL charges $90 dollars and more. You are paying for your NOT FREE breakfast and the ability to swim in a pool.
We offer clean, comfortable rooms here at Marinette Inn. And that is what $65 dollars gets you. A clean, comfortable room, friendly staff and we do have coffee in the office in the morning.
So when you are looking online and you see Marinette Inn and we cost $30-60 dollars less than area HOTELS>>>>>NO>>>you did NOT find a HILTON HOTEL suite at a steeply discounted price.
There are differences between HOTELS and MOTELS.

Hi everyone!!! Let's stay warm out there.
So I would like to address a policy we have here at Marinette Inn that seems to not be understood.
WE DO NOT ALLOW LOCAL RESIDENTS TO HAVE A ROOM HERE.
I often get asked why.
It is quite simple to answer>>>>> In my 5 years of managing this motel I have direct experience in having allowed local residents to have rooms here. We changed this policy a few years ago.
Generally speaking, Local residents have caused more problems than they are worth. I'm sorry but that is just the truth.
Think about it logically>>>>You live 5 blocks away or from a town over from us. What do you need a motel room for? Why do you need a motel room? Generally speaking, NOT EVERY INSTANCE but generally speaking, someone is looking for a "party room".
Or they want a "hangout" to have their buddies over.
We have had rooms trashed by locals.
Very simply, this is why we do NOT provide rooms for local residents and that includes neighboring towns to Marinette.
Yes, occasionally I have made exceptions. Someone having work done at their home so they don't have water or electricity, situations like that. A local resident makes a reservation for a visiting parent from out of state. This is why I say, GENERALLY SPEAKING.
And this is why we do NOT provide rooms for locals.
They have caused more trouble than they are worth.
